Hello Bethany Families,

Week two is coming to a close. Each day is getting easier in terms of routines and protocols. I love to see the confidence building in children as they arrive knowing exactly where to go and what to do (parents too! 😉). We'll be having our first FIRE DRILL tomorrow. Teachers will prepare students ahead of time.

It looks like we will escape the rain tomorrow. In the event of a rainy day, our plan is to have lunch OUTSIDE under the lower covered area. All 3 classes will fit, spaced 6-ft apart, with room to spare! Mr. Stoller would hold PE inside with low intensity activities such as yoga. However, we have limited covered space for recess. PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A JACKET ON RAINY AND COOL DAYS. If it's just a light drizzle, we may have to brave the rain like true Oregonians.

In my Principal Chat last night I mentioned I would share information regarding BSD's participation in Weekly COVID testing. Please see the pdf below for more information.

Finally, as a mom, I always appreciate good parenting resources and tips. I included a podcast below on SLEEP. Maybe you will find it helpful too! Have a great weekend ahead....and get lots of rest!

Sleep is important — for both you and your children

Sleep Better With These Bedtime Rituals

Sleep is essential for both kids and you, their parents. But sleep schedules can vary in the summer when school is out. This episode goes over a few best practices to help you get the rest you need to keep going the whole school year. Good sleep hygiene, from going to bed at the same time each night to creating a calm environment to keeping phones and devices out of the bedroom, is often passed down to kids from their parents. Working on sleep routines is a lesson for outside the classroom that can benefit your kid's time in the classroom.

Vision Screening Next Week

The District will be conducting vision screening for all students on Thursday, Sept. 23rd. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them that day.

If you do NOT want your child screened, you will need to send a written notice opting your child out prior to the screening.

Kindergarten Fundraiser

The Bethany Kindergarten teachers want to create classrooms with spaces where students can take risks and make messes. We would like to create a “yes” environment, where students can learn that mistakes are an opportunity to try again. These spaces will be student centered, where the teacher becomes the facilitator, provides guidance and partners with children in their learning through play.

We encourage you to send this campaign out to your family and friends. The BEF New Project Match will match your contribution to this project dollar-for-dollar, up to $500.

Volunteering at Bethany

Volunteers are a very important part of Bethany. We are so thankful for the 14 families who are working on our lunch / outside mats for our students. The DIstrict is looking at limited volunteer opportunities in the building, we will keep you updated as we receive more information.

All volunteers need to have a background check completed by the District, in order to work around our students. This includes classroom volunteers, going on field trips, classroom pary planners, Jog-A-Thon help etc.

We would encourage you to click on the link below and do your volunteer background check now. If you wait until the District begins to allow volunteers into the building, there might be a wait of a few weeks before you are able to help.

IMPORTANT: On August 19, Governor Kate Brown announced that all volunteers must provide proof of vaccination or complete a medical or religious exemption to volunteer in any K-12 school. As part of the volunteer application process, you'll be asked to upload your vaccination card or an exemption form.

Safety Reminders

Thank you for your patience as we have worked through the process of starting school. We wanted to remind parents of a few things when dropping off and picking up your child.

* No pets. It is beautiful weather and a great way to take your dog out for a walk. Please remember that we do have small children who are afraid of dogs, or are allergic. If you want to walk your dog, we encourage you to meet your students at the crosswalk or off of campus.

District Policy: Domesticated animals are not allowed on District property and will not be brought on District grounds, into schools or transported on District buses. This includes but is not limited to horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and other encaged, aquatic, or farm animals. Service animals[1] serving persons with a disability and animals approved by the superintendent or designee that are part of an approved district curriculum or cocurricular activity are allowed in district facilities.

2. Masks: We appreciate many of you walking to school, please remember to bring a mask to wear on school property.

District Guidelines: Visitors will not be allowed at school — either inside or outside — for periods longer than 15 minutes. This includes arrival and dismissal times. All visitors — inside or outside, vaccinated or non-vaccinated — must be masked.

3. Car Pick-up Line: Please remember to stay in your car if you park along the sidewalk. If you are picking up your child from their classroom door, we ask that you park in a designated parking spot. Students must get in and out on the passenger side of the car.

4. Crosswalk in Front Of The School: If you park and walk your child to their classroom, please cross the parking lot using our crosswalk. We have cars who are dropping off students and they may not see you if you come out between parked cars.
