GRHS Sunday Longhorn News 5-1-2022

A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
MAY-be we will make it after all! Of course we will, we have always had the power.....we just have to keep giving our best effort, showing up, and finish strong! This is truly the final stretch....the final 3 weeks of the 21-22 school year is here! Let the Senior Class of 2022 spoiling and spotlights commence! And my personal favorite....that Senior Walk through all three campuses...Polly Ryon, Reading Jr. High. and GRHS is baaaack! We will be live streaming this for all to enjoy!
This week is a Wizard of Oz themed appreciation week, because I think this GR Staffamily is OZ-Some! Each day they will follow the yellow brick road to a little treat! Speaking of appreciation...we are so appreciative of all the parent support you have shown us this year. If you find it in your heart to help us with a couple more things we would be so thankful!
If you can help our amazing PTO close out this year with a bang with a luncheon this week and one the last day of school, they would love your help, they really want to do this, but are a little short on funds, with the large size of our staff (200 employees on site each day). It's super easy, here is the link! Use this quick link to provide a monetary donation directly to their PayPal account using the grhspto@gmail.com email address OR go to our website and make a donation at https://www.myvlink.org/gerogeranchpto/
If you would rather donate a luncheon item, there are still a few spots available: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4DA4AD23A1FEC25-teacher
Students and Parents, I want to challenge you to SHOW SOME KINDNESS to your teachers by writing (or emailing) them a note, or getting them a little something, as I know that these little things mean the world to them! They SHOW UP each day for your kids, so let's SHOW UP with appreciation for them!
Culture Week at the Ranch this week was amazing! The daily announcements spotlighting many of our cultures right here at the ranch as well as the yummy food, cultural dress, and parade down main street was something that I LOVED seeing! Thanks to the students who made posters and spent hours organizing this, the staff sponsors, and everyone that SHOWED UP big on Friday to celebrate GR's diversity!
Big shoutout to our GRHS Class of 2022 Top Ten Students! Congrats Michael Tsao on being named Val and Mark McCullough on being named Sal! What a huge accomplishment that has taken years of hard work and dedication to achieve! We are proud of you!
Service Hour HARD Deadline - May 1ST!
Mrs. Ford will only be approving hours from 12/15/21- 5/1/22. Please note that service hours must be recorded and verified by the supervisor by May 1. It's the student's responsibility to make sure that your supervisor has verified your hours in SchooLinks by May 1. All service hours that haven't been recorded & verified in SchooLinks by May 1 will be DECLINED.
As the weather begins to warm back up this month, please make sure you are WELL within dress code. That means your shorts are LONG enough, shorts can be SEEN WELL BELOW those oversized t-shirts, no mid drift showing (which means the length of your shirt matters too), and no hoodies UP inside the building. Also, you should NOT be carrying a blanket around, if you feel the building is cold, bring a jacket or sweatshirt.
ID's are mandatory...or exemptions will be declined! This is NOT a new rule!
If you do not have an ID at this point, you will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15am. If you choose not to, there will be a HOLD placed on your account for the end of year. (NO exemptions/graduation/final grades, etc) Remember No ID = No Tech visible! Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.
The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

Attention Students Taking AP Exams!
Please read the following information carefully.
Morning exams: Students must be ready to enter testing room at 7:45 a.m. If you are not present for the exam at 7:45, you may be counted absent and not be allowed to test. Students need to make arrangements to get to school on time and allow for traffic, trains, etc.
You should bring the following items to the exam room:
Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets
Pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams
A watch (in case your exam room does not have a clock that you can see easily) The watch cannot beep or make any noise
Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities if you are taking an AP Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics Exam. (Visit www.collegeboard.com/ap/calculators to learn more about the calculator policy for each of these exams, and for a list of authorized calculators.)
A ruler or straightedge if you are taking an AP Physics Exam
DO NOT bring the following to the exam room:
Cell phones, digital cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), BlackBerry smartphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, MP3 players, e-mail/messaging devices, or any other electronic or communication devices. GRHS is not responsible for any damaged or stolen electronics.
Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, colored pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, or notes
Rulers and straightedges (except for Physics exams)
Scratch paper (notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets or, for Chinese Language and Culture and Japanese Language and Culture, on scratch paper provided by the proctor)
Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions
Watches that beep or have an alarm – no smart watches!
Ear plugs
Portable listening* or recording devices (even with headphones) or photographic equipment
Food or drink*
Clothing with subject-related information
* Unless this has been preapproved as an accommodation by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office prior to the test date.
BE ON TIME for your exam: 7:45 a.m. for the morning administration and 12:00 p.m. for the afternoon administration. Students may not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam. If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employer of your AP Exam obligation, and arrangements should be made accordingly.
Students who normally have C or D lunch will go to B lunch and then report directly to the testing room by 12:00 pm. If you are taking two exams in the same day, you will need to bring a sack lunch that day. You will not have the time or opportunity to go through the lunch line in the cafeteria
If you are scheduled for a STAAR test on the same day as your AP exam, you will take the AP exam on the scheduled day and take the STAAR test on the make-up day.
Get a good night’s rest before your exam and eat a nutritious breakfast. You are allowed to bring a snack and beverage for your 10-minute break. However, food and drink are prohibited in the exam room. It is advisable to bring a sweater in case the room temperature is below your comfort level.
You are required to abide by the policies of both the College Board and George Ranch High School during the exam period. Any misconduct will be reported and could jeopardize your AP Exam score.
*Please make sure you are signed up for the correct exams by reviewing your Total Registration testing schedule.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Good luck!

STAY TIGHT Longhorns!
Campus Expectations and Driving/Parking Reminders!
Expectations are Clear!
Not adhering to the campus expectations is not an option. I have been crystal clear and also personally review them every morning on announcements. If you choose to NOT follow them, you are choosing to accept the consequences, including ISS, OSS, possible ALC, and of course the loss of your exemptions. Most of our campus is doing a great job with this, but if you are one that is NOT, now is the time to fix it. Disrespect will get you in trouble, so the sooner you understand rules/policies are meant to be followed, not argued, the more successful you will be not only in school but in life. If you are causing unnecessary work for us, due to non compliance to very fair rules and expectations, you will be suspended, because we are focusing on the Longhorns that are trying their best and making end of year academic success as the priority.
Driving and Parking Reminders:
- Please make sure you are parking in YOUR designated parking spot (that was paid for). A few students have been parking in visitor parking, you will be towed moving forward, there are no warnings. We're short on spots for subs and various district personel visiting the campus for the day when you take these spots.
- Leave a little earlier, by you running late, you are causing major parking lot safety concerns. No more u-turns on 762 to bypass the traffic light, because this is very dangerous. Fort Bend County has been notified so they will start patrolling it.
- Speeding and cutting across the parking lot will result in you losing your driving/parking privileges. The safety of our Longhorns and staff is too important to me.
- Parents dropping off students in the parking lot, you will need to stay in the driveway, or pull in a spot to drop off, blocking the parking spots for staff is keeping them from being on duty on time. This creates an unsafe environment for us, and that cannot happen. Thanks for your help!

Mobile Learning Device (MLD) Posters Hanging In All Classrooms Since Day 1! Parents, if there is an emergency DURING CLASS TIME, and you need to contact your student, please keep them out of trouble by CALLING THE FRONT OFFICE at 832-223-4200 and we will get them a message! Thanks for your help in keeping instructional time sacred!

Behavior Reminders!
- No ID = NO PHONE (even during lunch/advisory) If you refuse to put them up, it's a write up.
- No "hood" (from hoodies) or beanie (covering ears) can be worn INSIDE the building.
- Phones must be put away at AT ALL TIMES during instructional time, unless there is an instruction purpose GIVEN by the teacher and the sign is on GREEN. If you refuse to follow this, it will be a write up. (Phones are allowed before the 8:15 bell, during your lunch and advisory, and after 3:40pm)
- Ignoring teachers/staff when they are asking you to put on ID or to put your phone up will be a write up. (That's just disrespect)
- In the hallways without an ID AND a pass during class time, will be a write up.
- Instigating, participating, or videoing an altercation (regardless of how small) will be a write up. If you are part of a fight, you will be placed at ALC.
