A Message from the Principal

Greetings Energy Bus Riders!!!

As an Energy Bus Certified School, we consistently remind our students that each day we have a choice as to what we choose to believe and the stories we tell ourselves. We are all in search of positivity, peace, love, and joy, but sometimes our students struggle with how to find it.

Sometimes we go through life discouraged because we tell ourselves things like “I am not good at this skill" or “I will never be able to accomplish that.” Some of our students feel this way, so we are teaching them strategies and principles for changing these negative thoughts so that our attention and energy are going in a positive direction!

When we tell ourselves positive or encouraging stories, we move in and out of challenging situations faster, gaining new learning experiences and most importantly we are able to keep our bus moving in the right direction. One of the main characters from the book, The Energy Bus for Kids, Joy, says, "Everything happens for a reason. Every person we meet. Every event in our life. Every flat tire happens for a reason. Every problem has a gift for you. You can choose to see the challenge or see the gift."

As we practice Energy Bus Principle #7, "EnJOY the Ride!" this month, we will need to apply the 6 principles we've learned so far as we lead with a grateful heart and focus on all the amazing things happening in our lives and in our schools.

Buckle up and let's continue to enjoy the ride together! Please be sure to read about all of the awesome events scheduled at SCES during the month of March!

Sending lots of positive energy your way for another amazing month!

Mrs. Meyer

March: Energy Bus Principle #7 - "Enjoy the Ride"

This month we will reinforce the importance of living a happy and healthy life!

March Book Madness Set to Begin!

For the fourth year, Mrs. Beech and Mrs. Holden will offer their own version of March Madness with a bracket of 16 books. Each book is accompanied by an audio recording so students can enjoy the book as it is read out-loud. This year we have some special audio recordings for some of our books. A fourth grader is the only voice heard for the book, “I love my hair”. Four other fourth graders assist Mrs. Holden in the audio “Pardon Me” and students in Mrs. Staggs’ class join her in the reading of “E-I-E-I-O.” Visit our Facebook page for the link to the March Madness website, and see the competition until the 2020 Champion is revealed.

March of Dimes

This year we are super excited to announce that we are partnering up with the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is an amazing organization that is funded through donations and the mission of the March of Dimes is to end preventable pre-maturity and maternal mortality! Our support and donation will assist in improving these statistics:

  • Approximately 20 babies pass before their first birthday due to birth defects, accidents and pre-maturity.
  • 90 babies each year or more than one baby each day is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

We can help as a school by raising money! We have some very fun events planned for our kiddos!

Starting Monday, March 2, 2020, we will begin collecting change in the classrooms and each classroom will be competing in a change war! The class that raises the most money will get to enjoy a PIZZA PARTY!!!!!!!!

We will also be raising money to PIE a teacher (or maybe even the principal) in the face on the last Friday of March at our Energy Bus Pep Rally!

We are so super excited about this partnership with the March of Dimes, as we have all either been personally affected by prematurity or know someone who has. If you would like to donate online please visit our website at

The SCES PTO is Leading a Boosterthon!

Parents and Families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Boosterthon Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday, April 7th. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Boosterthon Fun Run, which will happen on Thursday, April 16th. This year our goal is to raise $10,000 for our Fines Arts Department, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.

Donations will go toward our Fines Arts Department to purchase such items as a climbing rock wall for the gym, additional musical instruments, art display boards, etc. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Boosterthon Fun Run on Thursday, April 16th.

Volunteers Needed: If you wish to volunteer to help on the day of the Fun Run, please email the Shoally Creek Elementary PTO at Thanks so much for your support!

*Important to have current phone numbers & email addresses:

  • Please make sure that you are stressing to your school families that they need to have the correct email and phone number in school messenger. Otherwise, they may not receive important information like school-cancellation calls or registration information.

*From Bus Transportation Department Concerning School Delays:

  • When we have a 1-hour delay, the bus will arrive at the bus stop 1 hour from the normal pick-up time. So, if the bus normally arrives at 6:15 am, then on a one-hour delay, it will arrive at 7:15 am.

  • When we have a 2-hour delay, the bus will arrive at the bus stop 2 hours from the normal time. So, if the bus normally arrives at 6:15 am, then on a two-hour delay, it will arrive at 8:15 am.

*Transportation Changes:

All afternoon transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 11:00 am. Please reference the Student Handbook for further information.

Please remember the South Carolina Compulsory Attendance Laws and Regulations in regards to the number of minutes students must attend school each day. Every minute that a student is not in class is counted and reported to the state. If a student misses even 15 minutes of class, this adds up to over an hour of class each week. Please make every minute count for learning!
