Counselor's Corner

Dawson County Middle School is a PBIS school, which means that we utilize Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports. Our school wide expectations are the PROWL, this acronym stands for Persevere, Reach out with Kindness, Own your Actions, Willing to Put Others First, and Lead with Integrity. These expectations are expressly taught, and recognized in all areas of our building. Our school rules match our school expectations, but vary by area of the building, our rules change for the classroom, hallway, restroom, cafeteria, gym, learning commons or bus. We also have rules for appropriate technology use that your students learned about during digital citizenship the last few weeks.

When students meet our expectations they are rewarded with PBIS Points, via an app called PBIS Rewards. In addition to the PBIS student app, there is a PBIS Rewards Family App and this allows parents and guardians to view student point totals, items purchased with points, and upcoming events for which points can be used.To use the app, parents can scan a QR code to activate a student in the app. Then you as the parent or guardian can recognize and encourage your student’s positive behavior at home based on the information available in the app.

If you would like your student’s individual QR code please email me, jlefevre@dawson.k12.ga.us or all printed QR codes will be available during curriculum night along with a member of the PBIS team who can assist in putting the app on your smartphone. Together, we can encourage and increase positive behaviors through the use of PBIS at school and home.
