News from this week
This week has been a big testing week between the District Assessments and math tests. On Monday students will take the English Language Arts DA from 8:30-10 and on Tuesday they will take the Math DA at the same time.
We have several technology projects going on right now. The students in my Language Arts class have both a Book Club project and and an Informational Project they are working on. We have begun working on publishing their informational research projects and students are working on Powerpoint presentations on an informational topic of their choosing. The students have also begun planning for their book club projects. The students need to write a reading response on their book club book and they will create either an Animoto book trailer or a graphic novel based on one chapter in the book. They will have an opportunity to work on this next week in class and they are also to be working on it at home. The projects are due Thursday, December 17 so that we can share them in class.
The students participated in the Hour of Code this week in Science. They can go on to their eClass page to log in if they want work on this further. They already know how to do this.
I will be sending home a Six Flags reading log today. This reading log is to be used for the next 3 weeks. It is due on the day we return from winter break. Every child who turns in his/her reading log will receive a free ticket to Six Flags good for the summer months.
Our winter class party is also scheduled for Friday, December 18 at 10:15. We will have pizza and Mrs. Gotvald is planning some activities.
Have a great weekend!

Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team
All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join the Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team. Witzzle Pro is a thinking game that uses multiple math operations. Players roll the dice to get a target number, and try to find that target number on the Witzzle Pro card using three numbers in a row. Players score points for correct answers, and the player with the most points is the winner. This mind-sharpening and fun number game is designed to help students improve their mental math ability. The Witzzle Pro team practices on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7:15 am. Practice will start on Friday, December 4th. Team members will compete in the Brookwood Cluster Witzzle Pro Tournament on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 here at Gwin Oaks Elementary School. The school winner will go on to compete at the Gwinnett County Tournament.
We will have Witzzle Pro practice on Wednesday, December 16th at 7:15 am. We will NOT have practice on Friday, December 18th. The Wednesday & Friday practices will resume when we return to school in January. Please check the "Math is TOPS" section of your child's eClass for additional information about Witzzle Pro.
