Evening Street Weekly Update
January 13, 2023

Principal Message
Even with a snow day, we packed much into this week. Pictured above is the Second Grade teaching team, Mr. Norris, Mrs. Szabo, Miss Kovach and Mrs. Riggert as they celebrated the One Hundredth Day of school. Children and staff had fun dressing as if they were 100 years old. You can capture more views by watching this week's video at the bottom of this newsletter.
Worthington Police Offers, under the direction of Officer Tammy Floyd, who is our school liaison, read the book, A Team Stays Together, to first grade students. The book teaches the important lesson of never wandering off on your own. Officer Floyd is working with The Starfish Assignment to bring this initiative to Worthington Schools. The children were very excited to see the familiar faces of officers who help cross them safely at the busy intersection of 161 and Evening Street before and after school each day. The officers wanted to make certain I thanked parents for the goodies and treats they have received from families. The officers enjoy making a connection with the children.
During this week, each teacher met with our instructional coach, Kristen Milbourne, BethAnn Morgan, our school psychologist, Tori Golding, counselor, Joanna Visoskis, Reading Specialist, Erica Coss, Intervention Specialist, Harleigh Graham, Intervention Specialist, Renee Brinson, Special Education Coordinator, and myself to review student data. After looking closely at phonemic awareness, language comprehension and word recognition, high impact instructional strategies were selected to help students meet expected benchmarks.
As a parent in Worthington, you should be proud to have a team of professionals reviewing your child’s data and making education decisions tailored to your child’s learning needs based on research. I know of no other district with such a systematic approach. Please make certain you schedule a conference with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s pathway of learning.
This coming Thursday, we host the Science Celebration from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. This is a showcase of student brilliance; personally, I am anxious to see the finished projects. Special thanks to chairs Lauren Eiter and Eddie Pauline for their organization of this initiative. In case of inclement weather, February 9th is a back-up date. Even if your child was not able to get a project together, please feel free to stop by the school gymnasium on Thursday evening.
Below is a video of last week’s amazing performance by the Fourth and Fifth Grade Choir under the direction of Mrs. Kristen Jarzecki. Special thanks to parent Sheila Fox for producing such a high quality video. I am sure your children have shared with you that the concert was spectacular, now you can witness it for yourself. Enjoy!

Conferences
Our goal is for every parent to know how well children are doing at school. During conference week, we invite families in to witness first hand student work. Please sign up for a time with your child's teacher, if none of the times work, please email the teacher to schedule another time.
Eagle Expert Extravaganza
Do you have expertise with a particular skill, hobby, or creative activity, or you know someone with such a talent? We would love for you to share this talent with the extended eagle family during a 20 minute session on Wednesday, March 22nd.
Please consider sharing your talent with the Evening Street family. If you know of someone who would be willing to share a talent with families, please inquire as to if they would be willing to help. The Thomas Worthington Robotics Club has volunteered their time. I am excited to see how the Evening Street community answers this call to make our community better and stronger by learning from one another. Let's make this a great family fun event! Spread your wings and soar!
Yearbook Ordering Closes February 10th
You can also simply visit book.hrimaging.com no later than February 10, 2023 to reserve your copy. Prepay order envelopes were sent home this week in case you would rather order by check or cash. The cost of the book is $17.00 per copy. You may order multiple books on one account/student, however the books will be delivered only to that student. i.e. if you order 3 on your oldest child’s account all three will get delivered to the oldest child's room for distribution. If you'd like your child to receive the yearbook with their class in their classroom, please order for each individual student/child using the separate links. We are looking forward to a wonderful yearbook showcasing the memories from this school year! The yearbooks will be delivered in May before school dismisses for summer break!
Interested in Helping with the Back to School Carnival?
Sarah Fisher, mom to first grader Lucy Fisher, will be the Evening Street Carnival Chairperson for the 2023-24 School Year. Sarah is looking for a group of dedicated volunteers to help her lead the carnival activities and planning. It would involve meeting in February and then a few times before the event. The School Carnival is typically held in the middle of September. Getting involved will be fun and give you the opportunity to meet new Evening Street parents. If you are interested, please complete the Google Form below:
Special shout out and thank you to Alainna Green who has chaired the committee for a number of years!
💗Valentine's Day 💗
Classes will celebrate Valentines' Day as is appropriate for their age group. We do ask that Valentine's with candy are not shared due to student allergies. As a reminder, the Worthington School District follows practice when organizing school parties:
- Classroom parties (ie:Harvest Celebration, Winter Holidays, Valentines’, and year-end parties), which remain an important part of sharing celebration with students, may include reasonable food items. We encourage pre-packaged food items which include an ingredient listing to inform consumption choices.
- Teachers will notify families in advance of school-wide parties, and share the items to be consumed during the school party. This permits parents to scrutinize the food being served, and provide an alternative when necessary to meet their individual student’s needs.
- We are confident that all parents can assist us with celebrating each child in ways that do not adversely impact the health, safety, and well-being of the growing number of students for whom food allergens and other conditions are an issue.

The clinic is in desperate need of boys sweatpants/pants size 6-12. The pants can be new and/or gently used. Any donations are greatly appreciated. The children seem to find the mud no matter how hard we try to keep them away from it!
