WMMS Weekly Update
10/15/21
Greetings WMMS Families!
We’re wrapping up a great week at WMMS! Our staff really enjoyed visiting with families during fall conferences. Please continue to monitor your student’s progress by accessing the Campus Portal routinely. If you begin to notice that your student is struggling to turn in assignments and/or receiving poor grades let’s work together to address this now. Please reach out to your student’s teachers directly for support with this. Thanks for all you do to support your student’s success. Have a great weekend!

WMMS Principal
Student Arrival and Dismissal
Arriving at School
If your student is being dropped off before school please do so between 7:45-8:05 a.m
Students Leaving the Building at Dismissal Time
All middle school students are expected to leave the MS/HS campus at 2:50 p.m. unless they are being supervised by an adult. Students cannot hang out in the MS/HS after school while waiting to attend an event that is scheduled for sometime later that day.
Technology Help
Technology issues can be related to devices or programs that teachers have requested students to use. If you are experiencing technology issues please complete a Help Ticket.
Attendance Procedures/Close Contact Notifications
All absences from school will need to be reported to our attendance secretary, Miranda Winker, at msattendance@wm.k12.mn.us or (952) 955-0421.
Upcoming Family Event or Vacation
If you're planning for your student to be absent from school you may fill this Excused Absence Form out ahead of time. This form can be dropped off at the Middle School Office or emailed to msattendance@wm.k12.mn.us.
What to do if your child is ill
Parents need to be the first line of defense in our Health and Safety protocols. As a reminder parents are expected to perform a daily health screening for their children before sending them to school. If your child is exhibiting any signs or symptoms of illness, the child is expected to remain out of school until his/her symptoms have greatly improved. Please see full details on this page, WM Health and Safety Protocols. Report illnesses to msattendance@wm.k12.mn.us or Nurse Kelly.
Close Contact Notifications
If it is determined that a student at WMMS was a possible close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, a letter will be sent to families with exposure dates. At this time, notification letters are being sent to all students with whom the student who tested positive is in class with. In that letter there will be recommendations regarding quarantine and testing. If any COVID-19 symptoms develop at home or at school in the 14 days following exposure, a COVID-19 test is REQUIRED prior to return to school/activities. It will be required to share your test result with the building nurse prior to returning to school. COVID-19 test finder here or order a test for at home use here. Students with symptoms may also request a saliva test kit from the MS health office.
If your student will miss school due to exposure or an illness, please alert the MS office @952-955-0421 or msattendance@wm.k12.mn.us or contact Nurse Kelly Maas. While out of school, students will be able to log into Schoology and follow along with their classes there. If questions arise, students and parents can email teachers.

Unity Day
If it is difficult for your family to find something orange, but your child would like to participate, feel free to reach out to the school social worker (952-955-0412) or have your child stop in the front office and we would be happy to provide an orange wristband for your child.
Field Trips/Activity Fee
The middle school is excited to inform you that we are planning to participate in grade level field trips this year. As we move forward with making plans for field trips we request that you use your campus portal to pay for your student’s $40 Activity Fee if you haven’t done so already.
You can do this by logging into your Campus Portal and following these steps:
> On the top left side click on the three lines > Fees > Optiontional Payments on the bottom > On top right corner choose your student > Choose MS Activity Fee > Add to Cart > Open My Cart and make payment.
Student Walking Path
Due to ongoing construction our Student Walking Path is still closed for safety purposes. Students who walk to and from school will NOT be allowed to use the trail and bridge that connects with Hwy 10. Instead, students will be expected to use a shuttle bus that will take them back and forth between the school and the Community Learning Center. Students walking to school in the morning can go to the Community Learning Center (door #2) and get on bus #8 at 7:40 a.m. or bus #28 at 7:50 a.m. and take either of these to the MS. Students leaving school can take bus #8 or bus #28 to the Community Learning Center. At this time we do not want students biking to school.
