Our February 3, 2016 meeting at the PDC will comprise of mini-session training options to support you in utilizing available resources.
Meet our new Director of Office of Language Acquisition and State and Federal Programs
Dr. Luzelena Perez
Here is some information shared by Dr. Perez:
I have two wonderful daughters - a 7th grader and one at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!). Like all parents, I adore every milestone they reach and appreciate every moment I spend with them. I was raised in Colombia and I am fortunate to be bilingual. Our family is made complete by our poodle Seby.
I have been an educator for over 17 years. I have worked all grades, PreK-College. I taught primary grades in Long Beach and Corona and worked for over 7 years at the district level in both Temecula Unified School District and Escondido High School District. I have had the joy of working as a teacher, a literacy specialist, instructional coach, and as a member of administrative teams at district and school level. I earned my doctorate degree through the UCSD-CSUSM joint doctoral program in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. I have taught as an adjunct professor at CSUSM and supported the development of many new and veteran teachers. I also was an adjunct professor at UCSD in the Doctoral Program in Education.
Most importantly, I love teaching and I have a passion for ensuring success of all students. I am a firm believer that nothing is more important than building trusting relationships.

ALD PTs and ELD EOCs Updates
ALD
Each level of ALD has Peformance Tasks, available by clicking here. These are administered when student readiness is determined by the teacher. The rubric scores are to be recorded in Illuminate. We will review how to do this at our February 3, 2016 meeting.
For ALD Newcomer's levels, each writing and speaking PT has a bubble.
For ALD Emerging-Expanding levels, there is one bubble to scan per final multi-media PT presentation.
Note: the PT multi-media presentation utilizes the writing portion of the PT(two poems). If you assigned additional work based on the district-provided texts (a synthesis essay, etc.) you may create an Illuminate assessment and input your student scores for your own assessment purposes. For ELD portfolio calibration purposes, all ALD Emerging-Expanding students are expected to have the multimedia score and presentation at minimum, regardless of any additional assignments teachers may choose to create or assess.
ELD
Each level of ELD has an EOC. The ELD EOCs will be available in Illuminate and are to be administered during the EOC week. The results of the ELD EOCs are to be uploaded to Illuminate. Your site testing coordinator will be able to access the EOCs when they are released per the office of Research and Evalaution
