Social Intelligence & Respect (1/27 - 1/31)
January 27th: All Grade Levels
Last week we opened the week by talking about bullying behaviors vs. mean behaviors vs. being rude. Remind students about your conversations. Show them the picture again if need be. (Keep in mind any examples of behaviors that you've seen in class that might be negatively affecting relationships in the room. You may want to use them with the discussion questions below.)
Kinder - 1st
Discussion Questions:
- How can bullying behaviors, being mean, and being rude cause cause us to lose friends? (Have students come up with behavior examples of things that might negatively affect their friendships. Add in any that you may want to discuss based on classroom observations.)
- How can you be a better friend today?
3rd - 5th
Discussion Questions:
- How can bullying behaviors, being mean, and being rude negatively affect our relationships? (Have students come up with behavior examples of things that might negatively affect their friendships. Add in any that you may want to discuss based on classroom observations.)
- In what way can you make an effort to show more social intelligence today in the classroom?
January 28th: All Grade Levels
Discussion Questions:
What does respect look like to you?
How do you like peers/friends/adults to show you respect?
How can you show respect to others?
January 29th: All Grade Levels
Share examples of a time in the recent past when someone treated you with respect?
How did that make you feel?
January 30th: All Grade Levels
Discussion Question:
3rd - 5th
How could you make a difference today by showing someone respect? (Remember...no little bit of showing respect is too small or too big. Every effort matters?)

Who is someone outside of our classroom that you could show respect to today?
January 31st: All Grade Levels
Discussion Question:
How does it make your feel when you show respect to someone?
Has anyone ever been surprised when you showed them respect? (3rd - 5th Only)
(Example: I (Mrs. Travis) always say that you Sir and/or Ma'am to whoever is serving me in the drive through line. One time a young boy looked shocked that I said thank you sir. Apparently people weren't always so courteous in the drive through line and me taking the time to say thank you sir caught him off guard. )
