RTI Accommodations
New for 2017----CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE FOR 2018
It's time!
We are on a timeline! We need to get our classroom documents scanned to prove need as soon as possible. Call us and let us help you scan into DMAC.
WHAT SUPPPORTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR OUR RTI STUDENTS?
Extra Time!
What is necessary to show academic supports are needed for student success? Have the student begin a worksheet in class and if he doesn't finish and needs more time, simply note where the student was when the timer stops and then allow them to finish. All you have to do is mark on the paper that he needed extra time to finish the last "----" items. Make a copy and give the sheet to us, dated and signed. Only students that have a reading difficulty noted in RTI can receive Extra Time in math, science or social studies. We will then upload the document for you into his/her DMAC file. (Class work and an assessment)
Individualized Structured Reminders
Students noted to receive this support should complete an in-class assignment with no supports. Provide another in-class assignment similar to the first with supports. Suggestion: Place a Post-it note with a handwritten reminder for the child in the location he/she will need it. (Slow down/remember your time) Notes are specific to the child's needs. Students should be able to place their own reminders, if possible, by the end of the year. Indicate on both assignments with or without supports, date and sign it.
Oral/Signed Administration
Oral administration will be available to students that show a deficit in reading and has difficulties. Documentation will need to be from 'cold reads'. Questions and answer choices can be read only, not the passage. An unsupported piece of documentation and a supported document must be uploaded for oral admins. Multiple pieces of documentation are recommended. The goal is to work towards complete independence.
Documentation for RTI
Documentation for RTI is necessary to prove need. Students served under Section 504, special services or ESL have a set boundary and have qualified through testing or from a medical need. RTI must provide classroom documentation to show these supports work. If no documentation is in the file, students will not be allowed the accommodations on state testing.
Post-It Notes
Students receiving individualized structured reminders can be taught where to place the Post-it notes within their student booklet to assist with what has been determined as a need. This is individualized for each student. Notes can be written on the post-it-note to help the student remember what is expected.
Highlighters
Highlighters are allowable for all students during testing. It is recommended to use them throughout the year and not just on test day. They can be used for individualized structured reminders as well instead of Post-it notes.
Scanning
Our copy machines have the capability to scan now. We will come over and help you with scanning of your student data into DMAC. We have to prove need for the designated supports before they can be used in official state testing. Your 9 week assessments are a perfect piece of data to prove need.
