A message from Mr. Lucita
Welcome to the last days of August!! Within the next few weeks, we should start to see a little bit of a dip in temperatures! What does that mean for the Jaguar Marching Band, you ask? It means our parents have started preparing our Official Johnson HS Band Uniforms. We will wear our summer uniforms (shorts and polos) during the hottest temperatures of the season and then move to the full uniform as it begins to cool down or we get to our first contest, whichever arrives first.
Let’s take a quick look at this coming week!! We have another Thursday Night Game! Yep, that’s two in a row! This week we play Lockhart and will be at Shelton Stadium! This will be the first time our home audience gets to see part of our show “Young Person’s Guide to the Neitherworld”. The show was well received by the Crockett HS Parents last week and we know our Johnson Parents will love it as well! Make sure you cheer and clap loudly as the students feed off of the crowd's excitement!!
Let’s talk schedule for this week. We ask that everyone please keep in mind that this year is the first time we have had a full eight-hour rehearsal schedule in two years, plus we have 100 more students in band than we did then. This is also the first time we have played for our Rosettes during halftime which means rehearsing with them each week. Having said this, we need to make one minor adjustment to our morning Game Day rehearsal. Instead of holding rehearsal from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m., Game Day rehearsal this Thursday will be from 7 - 8 a.m. Finishing at 8:30 did not give our students enough time to move all equipment inside, put instruments away, change clothes and head to their first period classes. Moving rehearsal thirty minutes earlier will give our students enough time to complete the items above and not be late to first period.
A detailed GAME-DAY schedule will be sent out this week. One request concerns student pick-up after the game. Please sign up for the Parent Remind. We will send a quick Remind as we leave each location as well as one when are getting close to arriving at Johnson. Please do not wait until the band arrives and your student calls you before leaving to get them. Here is the link for the Jaguar Band Parent Remind: https://www.remind.com/join/jagbandpts
Last week was awesome! Now let’s make this week even better! As always “It’s a Great Day to be a Jaguar”! #undeniable

Prop and Front Line Crew Update
Notes from your Band Booster President
Most importantly, we wanted to cover a few important items before our next game and certainly before our competition season begins that we would appreciate you re-enforcing with your peformer:
- Uniforms: Please make sure your performer has all items packed and ready for performance days. That includes BELTS, water jugs, and wristbands! (see about wristbands below)
- Hair: Please make sure your performer has a comb, hairspray, rubber bands, and hair pins for performance days. Hair MUST be pulled back and smoothed down.
- Inspection: Each performance day there will be a time noted on the schedule for "inspection". At inspection, section leaders assess whether their section members are 'game ready'. That includes ALL uniform parts (shirts tucked in), flip folder, and water jug. Please re-enforce to your performer the importance of meeting the Jaguar Band uniform standard!
- Consequences to failing inspection: Directors and SLT will soon be informing our students of the consequence for failing uniform inspection. (FYI - for many band programs, consequences have included students being assigned to clean-up duty AFTER the game.) Whatever the consequence, you and your performer can avoid consequence by MAKING SURE THEY HAVE ALL UNIFORM PARTS AND PERFORMANCE HAIR!
- Marching Shoes: It was brought to our attention that some returning band members did not re-order shoes and may not currently have nice marching shoes that fit them. If this is your performer's situation, please contact Mrs. Tracye Mendez, band secretary, as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to any of your Booster Officers, Chairs, or Parent Section Leads!
Sincerely,
Ida
What do i need to know this week?
Jaguar Jog
Parents and students! We need you! Please sign up to volunteer. Also, September 2 is the last day to sign up for the Jaguar Jog if you want a guaranteed t-shirt. Please note that we are aware of the potential conflict for those of you with a student in the percussion section due to their competition at "Thunder in the Hills". We will keep everyone updated as to the potential conflict as soon as we receive the schedule for that competition.
New Wristbands for Uniforms
You'll notice your student has one, two or three new rubber wristbands representing the theme from each year's marching show, as well as the slogan for that year. Freshmen have one, and sophomores have two, etc. (See photo in upper right corner) This year's slogan is #UNDENIABLE. Ask your performer about what their slogan means!
Please note: Wristbands are required parts of your student's uniform. Replacements will have to be purchased for $3. (as long as supplies last)
Band Photos
Band and individual photos have been uploaded to chaparralphoto.com. You may view and purchase them through their website
Send-offs for Competition
Each year parents and supporters of the Jag Band & Guard gather to wave at the busses and send off the kids to competition. Last year, we gathered for send-off to games because we did not participate in any competitions. This year, we're resuming our tradition of gathering for send-offs to competitions. More information will come out soon!
HaysCISD VIP for all Volunteers
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles are all invited to volunteer! If there is ANY chance you will help out as a volunteer this year, you must click here to register as a volunteer with Hays CISD. For assistance or once you register, contact Tracye Mendez for information about picking up your badge.
Prop Crew, Front Line Crew, Bus Chaperones and Other Volunteers Needed!
Bus Chaperones are parents who ride on the bus to and from the games. Band Aids (medical knowledge not required) are parents who sit near the kids in the stands and help as needed. We need parents to help sell Jag Swag at home during the games. Photographers take photos of our amazing band in action while in the stands and on the field.
