PRISM Club
At the elementary school level, this club can touch on family, identity, and respect. It can be a place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to connect and hold space for each other. The club promotes a safe and healthy school climate and an anti-bullying message. Members meet every other Wednesday during lunch. Students can bring their lunch and join the fun. Membership is optional, and agendas are posted in one of the glass cases in the breezeway. The teacher advisor solely supports the students.
One of their upcoming projects is posting kind, supportive messages around campus, hiding small surprises for students, "tagging" classrooms with positive notes, and delivering kind treats and notes to teachers and staff. Their goal is to spread kindness to all members of Alamo School and help make everyone feel like they belong.
Agenda from 1/12/22 Meeting:
1. Ice breaker: Tell us about your break!
2. Activity: Kindness Posters!
3. Read Aloud: And Tango Makes Three
4. Discussion: How can we show all friends they are loved?
Read aloud books for meetings:
And Tango Makes Three, by Justin Richardson & Peter Parnell
A Little Spot of Belonging, by Diane Alber
When You Look Out the Window, by Gayle E. Pitman
Pink is For Boys, by Robb Pearlman
What Are Your Words?, by Katherine Locke
Sharice's Big Voice, by Sharice Davids
Over the River and Through the Woods, by Linda Ashman
Stonewall. A Building. An Uprising. A Revolution., by Rob Sanders

Run Clubbers! Run Club will return February 2, 2022. Thank you to Lisa Taylor for keeping our kids running!
Movie screening event: Chasing Childhood, January 27 - Feb 3
As the world reopens, there’s never been a better time for us to come together to ask ourselves: What do kids need most to thrive? Chasing Childhood examines how free play and independence have all but disappeared from kids’ lives, supplanted by relentless perfectionism and record-high levels of anxiety and depression. The film spotlights experts and families who are empowering young people to explore their independence, enjoy unstructured time, and be free to thrive. This is a FREE event for you and your family to watch the film. Click HERE for more information.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Due to ongoing challenges with staffing, the principal is seeking volunteers to help with yard duty. This is a small time commitment but a great way to give back to the school. Sign up HERE
The PTA is actively looking for volunteers to help with our upcoming events. These events will not happen without parent support and these are the kid favorites for alamo school.

5th grade BINGO night: We are postponing the 5th grade BINGO FUNd night previously scheduled for Friday, January 28th. If you have a 5th grade student, please read your email this week for information about this fun evening and how to sign up to help!
Dine and Donate: Save the date! Our next restaurant giveback is at Gott’s in Walnut Creek on 2/1. No code or flyer needed-just order your food and 10% of the entire day’s sales will be donated to Alamo School.
Auction News: We are reaching out to our small community for new and unused product donations for our Alamo Ed Fund online silent auction, which will be held from March 7 through March 15, 2022. Specifically, we are seeking new and unused product donations from your businesses, closets, cabinets, garages and hearts. Any and all donations are appreciated!
We also are in need of items for the live auction, to be held at Bocce, Bubbles and BBQ on May 21st. Your business can also offset the cost of our events by becoming a sponsor. See this letter that was sent home for more information and to access links for donations and sponsors. Thanks in advance for your consideration and kindness!
Volunteers needed: We have immediate openings to assist with planning ThinkWorks, manage our retail programs and to serve as Parliamentarian. These positions have various levels of time commitment required - please email Lauren Cymerys at alamo.edfund@srvef.org if you would like additional information. Serving on the board is a great way to help the school and your student(s), get a behind-the-scenes look at how decisions are made, and meet other dedicated and involved parents at Alamo!
Library update: At our March 2020 Live Auction Gala we raised $25,000 for a library upgrade. With construction wrapping up, we will soon remove old and outdated books, as well as order and install new seating and furniture. We are excited to provide an updated space for our students to enjoy!
Corporate Match: Don’t forget–corporate match can double your donation and help us meet our fundraising goals faster! Email alamocorporatematching@gmail.com with any questions.
Your Ed Fund Dollars at Work: We are busy taking photos of many of our staff members who are supported by your donations to the Ed Fund. Since parent access to campus is still quite limited, many of these individuals’ efforts are not as visible as in the past, but they are working harder than ever! This week we are highlighting Mrs. Padash, our art instructor.

Mrs. Padash
Mrs. Padash is our new art teacher who began in November and we are so lucky to have her! Before Winter Break the younger grades learned about Georgia O’Keefe and recreated some of her landscapes with oil pastels. The older grades learned about Pablo Picasso and did their own Picasso-inspired self-portrait! Don’t they look fabulous? Students have art lessons every other week for 30 minutes in their classroom thanks to your donations. We love seeing the amazing artwork created by our students and can’t wait to see what else is planned for this year.
