CHHS Cheer
We are so excited to announce that four CHHS Cheerleaders were selected to the 2016-2017 Spirit Division Academic All State 5A Team. Recipients must be a graduating senior and have a high GPA, a 94 or above is preferred. There were 52 5A cheerleaders selected from over 350 nominations. This is a huge honor!

There were only 24 5A/6A Junior Cheerleaders from the state of Texas chosen for this team. This is a special honor, as well, because Allison will be performing/cheering at the All-Star Basketball game in Austin on July 12th. She will be cheering with the Red All-Star squad!

Congratulations to the JV and Freshman Black teams for their Win over Grapevine! JV enters the last game of the season with a record of 21-4, 10-2 in District play. Freshman Black is 21-5, and 9-3 in District. Come out TUESDAY, Feb 14 for Valentine’s Day and cheer them on as they take on Richland at CHHS. Freshman Black plays at 5:00, JV is at 6:30 and Varsity plays at 8:00!

CHHS Boys Basketball Spotlight Players of the Week
Landon Byers – Varsity
Landon is a Junior Forward who was inspired to play basketball by Coach Perez. He says he thinks his game most resembles Dennis Rodman. His favorite restaurant is Chans and his dream car is a 1992 Dodge Caravan. His favorite class besides basketball is Mrs. Graven’s class.
Gervon Thothion– Varsity
Gervon is a Senior Forward who says his favorite thing about Basketball is guarding people. He thinks his game most resembles D. Leonard and he was inspired to play by Spud Webb. His personal goal for the season is to build a relationship with Team first. His favorite class besides basketball is Web Technology.
Christopher Hotchkiss– JV
Christopher is a Junior Post who says his favorite thing about basketball is playing and improving with his team. He was inspired to play basketball by his dad and his brother. His personal goal for the season is to make a 3 point shot and his team goal is to have a positive record in district. In his free time he likes to play video games and watch TV.
Alex Parker – JV
Alex is a Sophomore Guard who says his game most resembles Derrick Rose. His personal goal for the season is to improve his overall skills for next year. His team goal is to win at least 75% of the games. His favorite subject besides basketball is all humanities and social studies classes. His dream car is a Bugatti.
Derian Jones – Freshman Black
Derian is a Freshman Post who says his favorite thing about playing basketball is the feeling of doing good. His personal goal for the season is to try his best every game, and his team goal is to go undefeated. In his spare time he likes to kick it with friends. His favorite class besides basketball is Science.
Jacob Rodriguez – Freshman Red
Jacob is a Freshman Guard who says his game most resembles Vince Carter. His favorite thing about basketball is playing with friends. His personal goal for the season is to be a team player, and his team goal is to end the season positive. His favorite restaurant is Whataburger and his dream car is a customized Camaro.
Anton Larsson-Cronstrom – Freshman Red
Anton is a Freshman Forward who was inspired to pay basketball by his mom. He says his favorite thing about basketball is playing with his friends and winning. His personal goal for the season is to get better at shooting. His favorite class besides basketball is World Geography.

Lady Panthers Soccer Game Update
Varsity played two games this week:
*Tuesday they played Grapevine and lost a tight game 2-1
*Friday they played Carter Riverside and won with a score of 5-0
JV also played two games this week:
*Tuesday the JV team tied Grapevine 1-1
*Then Friday they won against Carter Riverside with a score of 7-0
CHHS Girls Soccer Spotlight Player of the Week
Lauren Hodge-Varsity Junior# 7
Lauren plays center midfield for CHHS. She has played club soccer for Solar, Sting, Texans ECNL, Dallas Texans. Last year she won honorable mention All-District and is Captain of both her club team and the varsity team at CHHS. Lauren is active in National Charity League, Chemistry Club, and Class Council. She is also a member of NSHSS, and The Spanish Honor Society. Lauren plays soccer for CHHS because she has always loved soccer and it's a fun thing to do while being with friends.
Jamil Okada-Varsity Junior# 18
Jamil plays center midfield for CHHS. She has played club soccer for Solar, Sting, Liverpool, & FWFC. Last year she won MVP for CHHS JV Soccer, and Soaring Valor. Jamil is active in Chemistry Club, The Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, and Interact Club. Jamil plays soccer for CHHS because she is passionate about the sport. She says, " I know how lucky I am to play for such a competitive and supportive school."
Colette Pelletrino-Varsity Junior# 15
Colette plays midfield for CHHS. She has played club soccer for Sting Central. She is active in STUCO, Best Buddies, Redefining Beautiful and Class Council. Colette plays soccer for CHHS because she enjoys the game and she wants to play as much as she can for as long as she can.
Lara Wadle-Varsity Junior# 5
Lara plays Defense for CHHS. She has played club soccer for GSSC, The Mustangs, Solar, Liverpool, & FC Dallas. Lara is active in ASL Club and Best Buddies. Lara plays soccer for CHHS because she loves soccer and the more practice and play time she can get the better. She also thinks its a great experience to get the opportunity to play and bond with other players from all grades.
Boys soccer players of the week
Gerardo Zapata, 11
Gerardo is an explosive forward on the varsity team. He was inspired to play soccer by watching the Mexican National Team as he was growing up. He enjoys the friendships that he has made on the team and he hopes to win district. His favorite class at school is the soccer period because he can be outside and play his favorite sport. When he graduates CHHS he hopes to be an entrepreneur.

Max Quiroz, 10
Max plays midfield and has played since he was a kid. He enjoys playing soccer at CHHS since he gets to be with his friends. This season he hopes to win games, not get angry, and have fun with the team. His favorite class at CHHS is math. The problems are challenging and he likes to find easy ways to solve them. After he graduates he hopes to go to a good university and have a career.

Daniel Li, 9
Daniel is defender and has played club soccer since he was 6, so he could join the school team. He likes being able to play soccer with his friends during the soccer period. His goal this year is to become a better center defensive midfielder since he hasn't played this position before. After high school he hopes to become a lawyer.

CHHS Panther Cheerleaders
The CHHS Panther Cheerleaders competed at the National High School Cheerleading Championships (NHSCC) on February 11-12. 2017. The NHSCC is the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. It is held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida and is nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes and 32 countries nationwide each year. Over 500 teams from around the nation and world come to compete at the NHSCC every year.
This year the Panther Cheerleaders received 7th place in the nation in Super Varsity Game Day! The Game Day competition combines a sideline chant, cheer, and band dance into a 3 minute routine.

CHHS Art Students
On February 11th CHHS art students participated in the Region 11W Visual Arts Scholastic Event. CHHS took a total of 64 artworks to the event. Out of these, 41 works received the highest rating of a "4."
Special congratulations to CHHS Junior, Alexandra Popke, whose work was selected to advance to the State VASE competition April 28-29 in San Antonio.
