Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao
Kia ora koutou.
It feels like the term has only just started and we’re halfway through already! Signs of a change of season are here as we start to prepare for Summer sport and book dates for Athletics. We are impressed with the way the children are managing play outside with limited space. Hopefully the field will dry out soon!
Inquiry
Opportunities for creativity, critical thinking and connection-making are happening across the teams this term. Inquiry learning in Terms 1 and 2 explored our cultural narrative and children developed an understanding of flora, fauna and the rivers in our area. They looked into the history and the ways the rivers and land were used.
This term the children are using art and storytelling to bring all of this together to retell our cultural narrative in their own words. It’s exciting to see this unfold as the children use their voice to bring the narrative to life. On Monday 26th of September, Week 10, we will have an open afternoon for parents to visit teams and see the children’s Inquiry work.

Our signs are up! Thank you to the Ansley family who dropped these into us, and to Frank and Valerie, our caretakers, who put these up. We also have temporary signs up in teams that explain the meaning of each new name for our team buildings.

Respect
As we delve a little deeper into our value, Positive Relationships, respect has become a strong focus for the term. We are looking at what respect means in the classrooms, in the playground, in interactions and even eating our lunch. Children are acknowledging that treating each other with respect and kindness makes us all feel better.
Cantamath
Congratulations to the Year 7&8 Cantamath teams who competed at the Christchurch Cantamath Competition at Christchurch Arena on Wednesday. This a great experience for these mathematicians to solve problems under pressure alongside 90 other teams across Canterbury.
Absence in Term Time
As we need to keep documentation for our records, can we please have written notice, via email, for any planned absences of two days or more taken during term time. Send to admin@clarkville.school.nz

Save our Sizzles! Sausage Sizzle Coordinator - needed
Been thinking lately you’d like to be a more active member of our school community? We are looking for someone (or grab a friend and job share!) to take over the coordination of the monthly sausage sizzles. Please get in touch with the PTA if you think this is something you’d like to take on for the school. We don’t want to have to stop the sizzles as the kids love them, and it’s a great way to help support your school.
