Surviving December - You Can Do It!
These last weeks of the semester before winter break move so fast! There seems to be so much to do: managing grades, final exams and keeping students engaged. In addition to an extra cup of coffee or two, we can all use a few tips as we move forward toward the end of the semester.
Let’s look at some tips and suggestions gathered from the sources listed below.
Keeping students engaged:
- Maintain normal classroom procedures and expectations
- Vary end of semester projects
- Use tools like Flipgrid, Padlet, Book Creator, Google Sites or Google Forms to allow students to reflect and use their voice
- Include peer and self-assessments
- Share products through presentation, a blog, Google Site, Padlet or Flipgrid
Maintaining your own sanity:
- Maintain a supply of Kleenex – there’s a lot of illness going around
- Be mindful of your time on social media
- Reach out when you need help
- Take breaks
- Be intentional with your sleep
- Get prepared for second semester before you leave

iOS 11 and the iPad - Oh, The Possibilities!
iOS 11 brings some amazing features to the iPad that directly benefit teachers in the 1:1 environment. Mirroring, Screen Casting, QR codes, Scanning, Multitasking, and Keyboards are just some of the features we'll visit. There are definitely differences from previous operating systems!
Stop by during either lunch on Wednesday or Thursday for a Tool Time quick look into the features and benefits that iOS 11 brings us. No need to bring a device!
Here's some information from Apple to explore until then!
Tool Time
This week's workshop is on the tool iOS 11. Stop by the Collaboration Room Wednesday or Thursday during either lunch.
Tool Time Workshops are 15 minutes of testing out a new tool that meets a pedagogical need. They start 5 minutes after lunch starts and end before lunch is over allowing you time to get your lunch, stop by the collaboration room, have some hands-on time with a new tool, eat your lunch, and get back to your next class. No need to bring a device, I'll have some ready for you to use. If you want more time with the tool, we'll figure that out together.
Which Digital Tools are You Using?
Partner with us and help us ensure your tools are approved and ready for to use when you need them. PLAN AHEAD. Visit Pine Creek's Resource List; it includes the resources submitted by you. Don't see the one you'd like to use? Visit the District database. Still don't see your resource? Fill out the Digital Tool Application and we'll get it submitted to District IT for approval. Once the tool is approved, we'll update our list and inform you. This process takes time, especially if a purchase needs to be made.
Please be patient with us and the District as we embark on this new process. The District database is continually being updated as is our own resource list. Our goal is to ensure you have the resources you need while protecting our students' privacy.
