Hello Glennwood Families,
It is hard to believe that we only have 15 days of school left after this week! You will always find Glennwood Events on our school calendar, but we have also created a Google Doc to make it a bit easier for families to keep up with our end of the year activities. We will update it weekly as needed this last month of school. Please check it out HERE.
We have two Community Circles remaining in the school year - May 13 with kindergarten hosting and the last day of school, May 27 with 2nd grade hosting. We will celebrate all May birthdays on May 13 and all June birthdays on May 27. (We celebrated July birthdays in August.) If you have a child with a May or June birthday, please make note of these two dates when your child's birthday will be recognized at Community Circle.
Also, we need a couple of parent volunteers to help put equipment back in the school building on Fridays after Community Circle. If you would be interested in helping, please email Dee Anna Rittenhouse at drittenhouse@csdecatur.net.
Lastly, I know I have said this before, but I am so grateful to be the principal at Glennwood. I love our staff, students and families. Our crew has certainly felt appreciated this week with all of the special treats PTA has organized and planned for us. Thank you to everyone who has helped with Staff Appreciation Week. The staff and I feel so supported and loved.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Holly Brookins
Principal
Candid Pictures for 2nd Grade Students

We will also have a special group classroom photo available for all 2nd classes.
Thanks!

Last Walk and Roll to School on May 13
It’s our last Walk & Roll of the school year!! Let's finish out this wonderful year of Walk & Roll SOAR-ing! Please join us on your feet, your bike, or your scooter (don’t forget those helmets!), and then stay for our marble count at Community Circle!! Students who walk, bike or scoot will continue to enter at their grade-specific doors, where they will be counted, using our traditional marbles, by their staff door monitors. Students can earn incentives, from our friends at Georgia Safe Routes to School and Georgia Commute Options, for participating! After dropping their kiddos, parents can make their way to the blacktop to await the start of Community Circle. Each marble will still count towards students earning extra school-wide recess! For additional details and a full Walk & Roll schedule for the year, please visit the Glennwood website: https://www.csdecatur.net/Domain/530
*Walking School Buses are on hold (due to Covid) until further notice*
Contact Amanda McMillan (almcmil@gmail.com) with any questions!

News from City Schools of Decatur
Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone “the extra mile” this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show their appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”). The deadline is May 25.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.

Decatur Parents Network
Join us for the next Parent Chat on May 9th, 7:30 pm-8:30 pm. The timing isn't quite right to get back to in-person parent meetings, but nothing stops us from gathering on Zoom.
A member of the leadership team will facilitate the event. There will be a suggested theme for discussion at each meeting, but the primary intent of these chats is to foster connection with those in attendance. PLEASE NOTE: These chats will not be recorded.
Register and learn more at https://www.decaturparents.net/events/parent-chats.
It’s National Teacher Appreciation Week! Your words of love and appreciation mean everything to our teachers -- Express your appreciation for a teacher or CSD staff member with a Step Up tribute: Go to www.stepupforteachers.com, make a $25 contribution and you can leave a tribute message for your favorite CSD employee, and we’ll notify the honored person. For $50 you can honor two CSD staff members AND have a yard sign delivered to your Decatur address! To celebrate our DHS seniors, we also have yard signs for the Class of 2022! Your contributions support Teacher Innovation Grants and provide an encouraging boost that our teachers need to finish the school year!
