February News
What's happening at HGECC?
February is here!
Dear HGECC families,
Wow, what a start to February right? Go Chiefs! We hope you enjoyed your "Red Snow Day" on February 5th.
January brought several snow days our way, snowmen were built, and we had several days of school cancelled due to the weather. Our students and teachers packed a lot of learning in, and the kids had so much fun experiencing the snow. I saw classes bringing snow into their rooms in sensory tables, making their own snow, and going out to build snowmen in the yard.
This month, we will be practicing some of our safety drills, planning for our upcoming Messy Night event in March, and hosting the amazing Dino O'Dell through Arts Partners. Dino always brings some fantastic story telling and music that gets the kids involved and up and moving. They love to dance and sing with him!
We will be having a planning meeting for parents interested in assisting with our annual Messy Night family event. The meeting will be here at HG on February 12 at 12:00. If you are interested in helping with a messy activity or planning our event, please come on up on the 12th at noon! We would love for you to come!
Are you curious about what your little person does all day while they are here? Check out your child's classroom website for pictures, resources, and updates on what is happening! We are always adding new information to our building page and teacher pages. Go to https://hgecc.grandviewc4.net, click on "about us", then go to "teachers and staff". Find your teacher's name and click on their website.
Remember-if you ever have any questions or ideas you would like to share with me, please give me a call!
It's going to be a great month!

Conscious Discipline Focus at Home:
Safe Place Breathing Icons
The first step in any discipline encounter is to take a deep, calming breath. Three deep breaths shut off the fight or flight response in the body. Try one of the following breathing strategies with your child when they are experiencing "big" feelings.
Balloon
Place your hands on top of your head and interlace your fingers. Breathe in through your nose as you raise your arms, inflating an imaginary balloon. Release the air in the balloon by pursing your lips, exhaling slowly, lowering your arms and making a “pbpbpbpbpb” sound.
Drain
Extend arms out, pretending your arms are faucets. Tighten arm, shoulder, and face muscles. Exhale slowly making a “sssshhh” sound and release all your muscles, draining out the stress.
Pretzel
Standing up, cross your ankles. Now cross your right wrist over left, turn your hands so your thumbs are facing the floor, put palms together and interlace fingers. Bend your elbows out and gently turn your hands down and toward your body until they rest on the center of your chest. Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Relax and breathe.

Visit our Success By Six Resource Center!
I don't know if you know this-but we have an amazing SB-6 center located in our building! What is this you ask? It's like a library full of toys, games, books, and resources! You can bring your child for playgroups, story times, and check out fun toys to take home with you--just like checking books out from the library!
We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Stop by and check something out!
