From the Nurse
Please check your child’s backpack over the Holiday break. The nurse will be sending home a final reminder for any students requiring a referral due to failing the state mandated screenings done in the Fall (vision, spinal or type 2 diabetes screening). Also, reminders for all Immunizations due in January will also be sent home. The required vaccines are necessary for your child to continue to come to school.
Important Information:
Winter Parties are scheduled on December 19th and 20th. The Pre-Printed Raptor Badge Request form was sent home and was due on Friday, December 13th. Here are some reminders from our School Handbook. "Due to space limitations, a student may only have a total of two visitors (parents and/or guardians) may attend the winter parties, and no other siblings are allowed to attend. For a special situation, please contact your child's teacher." We do not have enough space in the classroom for extra visitors, please make arrangements for babysitting so you can enjoy the party with your child. We will also begin to send Pre-Raptor badges home for parties so you can enter without long lines. You need to have your ID ready to gain entrance to the school.
Please do not park in the small lot next to the cafeteria. Those spots are reserved for our food service staff members only.
Morning drop off reminders for Car Riders. In the morning, our car rider line is open form 7:25 until 8:00 am. At 8:00 am the line is closed, and all parents are directed to the front office for drop off. The front office driveway opens to drop off up at 8 am.
For the safety of the campus, please do not park in fire zones in front of school. All fire zones are painted red and are located near the major entrances of the school. Cars parked in fire zones could be towed or ticketed. Please keep these areas clear for emergency vehicles.
Please make sure your child reads at least 30 minutes every night. Research says if a student reads every day for at least 20 minutes a day, they will hear 1.8 million words a year, and are more likely to score better than 90% of their peers. From the Principal
I have to tell you that when I saw our Panthers coming to school on Friday wearing their new yellow MPE Spirit Shirts, it brought tears to my eyes. I was a a moment I will never forget! I know your wondering why would a person be so moved by watching children coming to school in a school shirt? I was touched because of the school spirit and pride that was clear on our children's faces as they came into the building. There was also a sense of belonging surrounding our children.
School spirit is such an important part of a school's culture and we have been working on building this by adding all the various clubs our children participate in throughout the year. Our teachers who run the clubs and after school activities give their personal time to enrich the lives of our students. MPE has been around for over 40 years, and in all those years, the history and traditions are still very real for our Panthers. This yellow school shirt with the PAW on it, has made such an impact in helping every single student and staff member remember we are Memorial Parkway Panthers and we are proud of who we are and of our amazing school filled with the most wonderful children and staff in the world!
Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Martinez
