Mrs. Raymer's Music Newsletter

September 2015

The school year has started and students at Silver Spring are busy making music! Check out what they are up to this month:

The Dot

This year, Silver Spring's building theme is based on the children's book The Dot. Music classes have been using dots to compose music and "make their mark" on class compositions. Older students are using these dot compositions to kick off a unit on experimental music and graphic scores.

Grades 3 - 5

Our older students have been working with experimental music and graphic scores. This month, they will work in groups to compose and perform graphic scores.

Grade 2

Second grade has been learning about experimental music. This month, they will try different ways of composing music that use non-traditional and experimental techniques. Ask your 2nd grader what their favorite one was!

Grade 1

First graders will start the year by exploring their voices. This month, we are focusing on four ways our voices work: whisper, speaking, shouting and, of course, singing!

Band lessons have begun! Visit the band page on Mrs. Raymer's web site for up-to-date schedules and practice assignments.
