Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
March
From the Principal
Dear families,
I hope that you enjoyed your Spring Break! As the weather is warming up and Summer creeps closer, everyone in the building is excited to end the year on a very positive note. We have lots of events happening in April and May, so please be sure to read the information in this newsletter!
Now that we’re back to school, we will get right back into our routines and continue our learning.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will begin taking the MAP-- or Missouri
Assessment Program test-- in late April and early May. Please help support your child in doing their best on this test by getting them to school on time and ensuring they have a healthy breakfast. More information about specific test times and dates for each of those grade levels is included below.
Finally, we were elated to see so many families attend our Art Show and Multicultural Night held just before Spring Break. We are excited to have more opportunities to include you in more engagement events later this Spring!
Take care,
Dr. Simmons, Principal

Fairview PTA Family Directory
From your Fairview PTA: We are creating an opt-in Fairview Family Directory! Many families have expressed a wish to have contact information for the families of their children's friends and classmates. This is a voluntary way to provide that for your family so you can be contacted directly for potential play dates, birthday parties, or summer get-togethers.
Please note, your participation is NOT required. You may choose to provide all, some, or none of the information requested on the form. Any information you provide will be available to all Fairview families. Your contact information will not be shared or used for solicitation purposes.
If you're willing to participate, please fill this form out for EACH child separately! Thank you!
Specialist Updates
Hello Fairview Families 😊
Welcome back from hopefully a restful Spring Break! My family was in Oxford, AL watching Hickman baseball. Weather was great and the boys had a lot of success.
Before the break classes were working on and finishing up jumping and balancing skills. We did many activities thru station work. Be sure to ask them what we were up to! We’ll work to get back into the swing of things, playing various games and getting back into the routine. Also we will be looking forward to getting outside for class when the weather allows. Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! I’ve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board. Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
In art class students have learned a lot about clay, building techniques, the firing process and glazing. The clay project is usually a favorite among students, ask your child what they learned and the process to get their finished product. Many students are finished and have already taken their project home, others are still in the finishing stages and will be coming home soon. April will be full of other fun projects including The ARTS in April, where family members will be invited in to share their artistic talents with their students class. Emails and flyers will be coming home after spring break with more details! Please reach out with any questions lrobb@cpsk12.org
From the Media Center
Media Center News: So many good books! In many grades, we have shared books about Art. This includes how-to books, biographies of artists, and fiction stories about art pieces, character artist or set in museums. We always share books from favorite authors. This month that included Mem Fox, Jon Agee, Andrew Clements, Carl Hiaasen, Stuart Gibbs and more. Students in older grades continue to learn about library organization and practice book finding skills, using the shelf guides for numeric and alphabetical order. Thanks for your support of the Book Fair. It is great to see students with their families enjoying books! We are able to get so many additional books for our school and library thanks to you!
Technology Specials
In technology we have been learning about podcasts, and how to find podcasts appropriate for their age. We have learned that some are fiction and some are non-fiction with many different topics. Many children have said they were already familiar with podcasts and have listened to them with their families. I hope your spring break was very enjoyable and relaxing.

From the Music Room
March was National Music in Our Schools Month. We celebrated by participating in a March Music Madness bracket. The bracket started with 16 songs. Students listened to snippets of each song and voted for their favorites. After 4 rounds of voting, the final 2 songs were I Ain’t Worried by OneRepublic and We Will Rock You by Queen. It was a close competition, but the winning song was I Ain’t Worried. The winner was announced during our March assembly, and all the kids sang along! April will be jam packed with singing, dancing, and instrument playing including the electric pianos. The piano lab will be arriving to Fairview soon and will be set up mid-April. All classes will have a chance to play!

Counselor news:
Here is what students will be learning in April in counselor classes:
Kindergarten: Diversity, Growth Mindset
1st grade: Diversity, Careers
2nd grade: Careers
3rd grade: Diversity- respecting differences, Careers
4th grade: Diversity- respecting differences, Careers
5th grade: Careers
Careers may seem like a strange thing to teach in elementary school, but it is important for scholars to understand why people work and how their abilities and interests can help them choose what kind of work they will someday enjoy. In the younger grades we talk more about things such as jobs they will see people do in the community, why jobs are important, and the strengths and interests of people in different jobs. In the upper grades we survey students interests and talk about job requirements they may or may not be willing to accommodate. In 5th grade, students do some eye-opening research into how students want to live and how much money they will need to support that lifestyle. Then students take an interest inventory and research jobs to find out what they do and if their salary would be enough for the lifestyle they previously identified. Talk to your kiddos about jobs you have had (or wish you had!). Helping kids think about goals for their future can be a great motivator for school success!
As always, if there are ways our counseling team can support your student or family, please let us know!
