Pop Art!

Here on 16th of February 2013, at Exeter's Pheonix Centre!

What actually is Pop Art? And which Artists will we be focusing on?

You may be wondering what style of Art Pop Art actually is- It is popular objects, used in an abstract expression, to make it look odd but sensational, using the most modern and popular things.

Artists: Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein.

Andy Warhol;

Andy Warhol, born in Pittsburgh in 1928, was an American artist and filmmaker. He is the figure head of the pop art movement of the 1960s. Warhol brought focus to the banality of the commercial culture of the United States, creating and then pushing the artist envelope of his time.

Claes Oldenburg:

Claes Oldenburg was born on January 28, 1929 in Stockholm, the son of a Swedish diplomat stationed in New York. He studied literature and art history at Yale University from 1946 to 1950, then returned to Chicago where he took classes at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He also opened his own studio and, in 1953, became a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1956, he moved to New York, working part-time in the library of the Cooper Union Museum for the Arts of Decoration.
