February Celebrations
Car Rider Reminders
As a reminder, we have a significant increase in car riders this school year resulting in long lines during arrival and dismissal. Our priority continues to be on welcoming and dismissing our students safely. This takes the effort and commitment of everyone. Please be extremely watchful and cautious as you move through the car rider line. Be mindful of other traffic and pedestrians in the area around our school campus.
We continue to monitor the traffic flow and consider options that may ease the lines on Harrison Parkway and 141st Street. Towards that end, please plan to enter the line moving northward into the school parking lot. You might also consider arriving no earlier than 9:40 in the morning and 3:10 in the afternoon. This will prevent the lines extending to the main roads before student arrival and dismissal procedures actually begin. We appreciate your patience during the process each morning and afternoon to ensure the safety of everyone.
Friday E-Learning Days
As we plan for our second e-learning Friday, we want to remind families that while Fridays are a day of remote learning, they are still very important days of learning for our kids. Please be sure to attend to communication from your child's teacher regarding Zoom (live instruction) meeting times. Your child's teacher has prepared very purposeful, targeted instruction for your child and their participation on Fridays is important for their overall growth.
As with any new routine, we will monitor what is working well and make adjustments if necessary. Thank you for your continued partnership as we support our kids!
Counselor's Corner
Hi HPE families!
I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to Mr. Troy Brooks. He is a school counseling intern who will be working with me this semester.
My name is Troy Brooks, and I’m pursuing my masters in school counseling from IUPUI. I will be interning at Harrison Parkway this semester and am excited to get to meet and work with students and families in this community! Please say hello if you see me around the building!
Each Friday I will be meeting with grade levels to teach some different social emotional learning lessons. Last Friday, each grade level was introduced to this conflict/problem solving poster. We want to make sure we are teaching our children to be problem solvers! I know last week a few students had trouble getting on Zoom for my lesson. If that is an issue for you, please feel free to let me know (rmagill@hse.k12.in.us).
Here is the Friday schedule:
3rd Grade- 10:15
1st Grade- 11:00
4th Grade- 12:00
Kindergarten- 1:00
2nd Grade- 3:00

HPE Library Curbside
Do you need more books to read and enjoy at home? Virtual learners can use HSE Curbside service to borrow books from the library.
All students will be able to place up to 4 books on hold weekly. Our new pick up hours are going to be Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There will be a book cart in the front vestibule. The curbside pick up book cart is organized alphabetically by last name. All book stacks will have a name tag to help you easily locate your books.
You can just walk in, grab your book stack, and go. No need to sign in or check in with the office. There will also be a book bin for you to return materials as you finish with them.
Books will be ready for pick up the day after you place your holds. So if you place your holds on Monday, they will be ready for pick up by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Books will have a two week loan period.

Support Our Library
Birthday books with donor plates are also available. You can purchase at any time, even if your child's birthday has passed. Students love seeing their name and friends' names in books in the library.
