Weekly Principal Update
St. Bernard Catholic School: Wednesday, October 11, 2023
A NOTE FROM MR. GUSLOFF
Dear School Families,
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall season. We have some important updates and exciting events to share with you in this newsletter, I would like to highlight a few:
As we move into the middle of the semester, we encourage all parents to stay updated on their child's academic progress. Parent-Teacher Conferences are approaching, which will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's performance and growth with their teachers.
Tomorrow, our fourth-grade students will embark on an educational field trip to Madison! It promises to be a day of learning and adventure. Additionally, our eighth-grade students will be participating in a shadow day at Notre Dame Academy, gaining valuable insights into high school life.
Mark your calendars for two exciting events organized by our School Advisory Council (SAC) in November. Below is more detailed information, please stay tuned for more. We hope that these events will be enriching experiences that our school community can look forward to.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school!
Peace,
Principal Gusloff

IMPORTANT: NEW COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR FAMILIES
GRACE has recently adopted a new communication system for all schools. The program is called BrightArrow and includes both email and text. It is important that you make sure you are enrolled in both the email program and the text program.
EMAIL PROGRAM
On Monday, October 2nd, you should have received an email from "GRACE School System" with the subject line Welcome to the New Communication Tool for GRACE Schools.
- If you received this email, you are automatically subscribed to receive emails from our school in the future.
- If the email does not show in your inbox, check your spam folder. If it is there, mark it as not spam so that it will go to your inbox in the future.
- If you did not receive this email at all, please email sbsoffice@gracesystem.org to let us know you need to be added to the list.
TEXT PROGRAM
On Tuesday, October 3rd, you should have received a text from a (424) phone number with the message, "Welcome to the new communication tool for GRACE Schools."
- If you received this text message, please make sure to reply YES to the message. If you forget to do this, you will not receive any future text messages.
- If you did not receive this text at all, please email sbsoffice@gracesystem.org to let us know you need to be added to the list.
Thank you for your patience as we transition to this new system. From now until this week Friday (October 13th) we will be utilizing both our old system and new system to ensure everyone is getting the information being sent.
After October 13th, you will only be receiving the information one time utilizing the new system.

VOLUNTEER FOR SCRIP
Make friends, help your school, and earn volunteer hours quickly and comfortably! SCRIP volunteering is a great way to meet your service hours requirement for the 2023-24 school year.
St. Bernard Parish is in need of volunteers to sell SCRIP at the weekend Masses. As a volunteer, you choose when and how often you would like to help. Training is provided and the process is pretty easy overall.
Click here and choose whichever sessions you would like to volunteer for. You will then be contacted to receive training if this is your first time.
Thank you for helping to support our school and parish!
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 24th from 4:30-8:00 PM, and Thursday, October 26th from 1:30-6:00 PM this year. This is a mandatory event for all school families.
To sign up for a conference, click on this link and then click on the name of the teacher that you would like to meet with. You will be redirected to their personal sign-up page and can then choose whichever date/time works for you.
NOTE: All middle school conferences are held in the gym on a first-come, first-serve basis. You do not schedule a time to meet with each individual teacher.
SCRIP FOR SALE AT CONFERENCES
For your convenience, you will be able to buy Quick SCRIP and place orders for Special Order SCRIP at parent-teacher conferences this year. The order form can be found here.
Orders must be paid for with a check or exact cash.
Ann Selk, SCRIP coordinator, will be available to answer questions about the program, help get you signed up, and show you how easy it is to earn rebates to help our school and help you receive tuition credit.
SCRIP is a wonderful program with many benefits, so please make sure to visit this booth at conferences.
REMINDER: CELL PHONE POLICY
IMPORTANT: CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES PROTOCOL REMINDER
All cell phones, iPads, iPods, tablets, and smartwatches are to be turned OFF and remain in the student’s backpack between 8:15 AM - 3:45 PM every school day.
Please do not text or email your child in school. If you need to contact your child, call the office to have a message sent to your child’s homeroom.
NOTE: St. Bernard Catholic School is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices. Exceptions to the policy are made only when students are given permission by their teacher to use them for instructional purposes.
REMINDER: PARKING LOT SAFETY
In order to ensure the safety of our students and families, please make sure that you DO NOT drive around another car while in the drop-off line. Please wait until you are able to safely pull forward in the line.
We appreciate your patience as you wait for the cars in front of you to finish dropping off their students. Thank you also for being vigilant of those walking and for maintaining a safe speed in the parking lot.
