This is a listing of our curricular & non-curricular clubs.

Club Information

We welcome students to create their own clubs to meet their interests. All they need to do is find a teacher to be a sponsor of the club and then obtain the appropriate paperwork from the front office. Please see the administration if there are any questions.

Art Club

Sponsor: Sara Aminzadeh

Art Club is an extracurricular afterschool club for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. In art club we learn and create artworks and many more activities. Art club is a lot of fun and is perfect for everyone who likes art! All information will be on the Art Club Google classroom (code: juyt5z). Our meetings are held at the last Tuesday of each month.

Chess Club

Sponsors are Adam Dyer, Steve Gutierrez, David Holliday, and Monica Swanson. The student president is Sai Sarnala. The Chess Club meets on Tuesday’s in Room 515 after school from 3:35-4:20 beginning September 13th. There will be a winter Chess Tournament in December and a Spring Chess Tournament in May. There is no fee to attend and beginners up to advanced players are welcome. Hope to see familiar and some new faces this year.

Card Trading Club

Card Trading Club is for students that enjoy card games like Uh-Gi-Oh and Pokemon. Students play games and discuss strategies.


The Eco-Club gives students the platform they need to take action on the environmental issues they feel passionate about.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

The FCA meets every Friday morning at 7:30am. They currently meet in the 8th grade pod. After basketball season ends in the Spring, they move to the small gym. FCA is a student-led organization open to all students that focuses on equipping, enabling, and encouraging student-athletes to impact and influence their campus for Christ. However, students do not need to be student-athletes at Rice to be able to participate.

FLAR (Foreign Languages at Rice)

Agenda: to inform members of the diverse cultures and countries throughout games, hands on activities, informational videos and power points, music, dance, food, etc. Officers get to choose the cultures, countries or celebrations they want to teach members for that reason there is not an specific list yet. I am attaching the schedule for this year and possible topics for this year.

Lone Star Book Club

MSA (Muslim Student Association)

NJAHS (National Junior Art Honor Society)

Our goal is to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art and also to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

As a member of NJAHS, students should participate in two competitions at PISD as well as Junior VASE.

We are bringing art into other departments at school such as theatre (painting the sets for the play) and Special Education (painting ceiling tiles), as well as painting the pillars in the hallway.

NJHS (National Junior Honor Society)

Rice Middle School Poetry Book Club

The Rice Middle School Poetry Book is a compilation of student poems on a variety of topics. Students from all grade levels are invited to submit poems and artwork during the fall semester. During the spring semester, a staff of students works after school to design and organize the book. The publication is distributed and celebrated with a Poetry Bash at the end of the school year, where students and parents gather to hear the poems read aloud in the Rice MS library. The sponsors are Lorrie Weidenbruch and Lorinda Beekmann.

Rice Middle School Speech Club

Rice Middle School Speech Club meets on scheduled Monday afternoons in room 731. Meeting are announced through the remind texts. All information can be found on the speech google site: http://bit.ly/1NQcwJC

Student Council

Sponsor: Stacey Allen

Student council aims to benefit the students and teachers at Rice. The students will do service projects to support the teachers and the community, as well as work with the students to benefit the school as a whole. The current president is Ridhi Ralli. We typically meet the first Tuesday of each month in room 418 but students should listen to announcements for more information. They may also join the Google classroom using the code 4fwq4kn.

Study Buddies

Sponsor: Hayley Kosel

Study Buddies is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader looking to study with and learn from fellow Rice Ravens. Study Buddies has 8th graders from NJHS volunteer their time to tutor students in all subjects. Students should bring any questions, homework, or reviews with them to Study Buddies. Our first meeting will be on September 13th. We meet every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30-4:15 in Ms. Kosel’s room (728).
