COVID safe Valentine’s Day ideas:
You might think of Valentine’s Day as strictly a romantic holiday, but it’s really a day to celebrate everyone you care about — which includes your local neighbors, healthcare workers, grocery store workers, delivery men/women, senior citizens, and the children in your life.
Even if your family is in quarantine, or your child’s classroom is skipping their usual Valentine’s Day activities, there are a lot of creative and safe ways for you and your child(ren) to celebrate Valentine’s Day right at home.
1) Construction paper hearts:
Let your child expore their creativity while working on their fine motor skills by creating construction paper hearts to place on your windows or doors around your home. This helps spread the message of kindness, love, and hope.
Bonus: Write messages to other family members for them to find around your home. “You are funny.” “You are smart.” We Love You.” “You are hardworking.” “You are kind.” “You are doing great at school.” “You are thoughtful.”
2) Make Valentine’s Day cookies
Is there anything better than cookies? Yes, set up a video chat baking date with your grandparents or other loved ones you and your child(ren) are missing. Enjoy an evening ‘together’ decorating cookies.
3) Plan heart-healthy activities
February is not just Valentine’s Day – it is also American Heart Month! So, show some love to you and your child’s heart health. Let your child(ren) choose the activity:
· Living room obstacle courses
· Old-Fashioned dance parties
· Timed indoor scavenger hunt
· Bounce a balloon back and forth, keeping it in the air as long as possible
· Hold animal races: Hop like a frog, squat and waddle like a duck, scurry like a crab
· Set up fitness stations: push-ups in the living room, crunches in the kitchen, planking in the hallway, and a stair-climb on the stairs
· Follow a 30 minutes fitness YouTube video once a day
4) Have a Valentine’s Day movie night:
“A Charlie Brown Valentine.” Ask your child, what does love mean to them? And choose a movie according to their response (Friends? Family? Batman? Disney?)
5) Have a Valentine-themed reading hour:
Contact your local library for book suggestions.
6) Write Valentines:
Writing Valentine’s Day cards includes arts-and-crafts and exercises gratitude all in one. Surprise other family members, friends, or neighbors with a special note of appreciation.
Promote healthy behaviors that help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
· Stay home when sick or when identified as a close contact with someone who has COVID-19
· Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
· Wear a face covering to protect yourself and others
· Keep physical distance of six feet or more

Transportation Information
Transportation for the 2020/2021 school year
There are times when we are asked if a new stop can be made. This type of request may take a minimum of two weeks to coordinate and process the information (weather permitting). Such requests would require us to go out and look at a house location to make a better determination if the request can or cannot be done. We ask if you would help us locate you easier, by ensuring your address is clearly posted, and no less than 3 inches tall and visible from both directions and not obstructed from trees, shrubs etc.
Please remind your student(s) of proper bus stop behavior by standing at the stop, and not playing games or horsing around and not going onto or disturbing someone else’s property Also, please remind your student(s) there are several bus rules and one of them are that there is NO food nor drink permitted on the school bus. There is the potential for another student to have an allergic reaction to that item. The newest rule that MUST be followed is to wear your face covering at all times while on the bus and to stay in the seat that has been assigned to you.
Inclement Weather: The new notifications system will follow the district's guidelines that are sent out via Skyward and will also be updated via the district's web page at www.rlasd.net; Twitter: @rlschools and Facebook: Red Lion Area School District. Please ensure your contact information is updated in Skyward.
Dental
FEBRUARY is National Children’s Dental Health Month
Remember to “Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste and clean (floss) between your teeth for a healthy smile.”
Reminder:
Parents or Legal Guardians: Please remember the state of Pennsylvania requires that students receive a dental exam upon entering first grade, entering third grade, and upon entering seventh grade. This exam must be completed within one year before the start of school. Any exam done after August 24, 2019, will meet the requirements.
If you do not have a dentist, a school dental screening done by the School Dental Hygienist will meet state requirements. Please contact the school nurse for permission slip authorizing the dental screening.
Physical Education News
Please remember that PE classes do not have access to our gymnasiums during this school year. If weather conditions permit, PE classes will be held outside throughout the winter months. Jackets, hats, and gloves may be necessary for your child to be prepared for these classes. Students should continue to wear sneakers rather than boots on their class’s PE day. Thank you for ensuring that your child is prepared and safe.
