SHISD Mid-Week Message
Promoting great things going on in a great school district!
2015 is already shaping up to be a great year!
Dr. Martin Luther King. As a History major in college, it's hard to let MLK day pass without touching briefly on the impact he made on America. He was a visionary and believed strongly that all children had a right to rise above their current situation and grab their piece of the American dream. As educators, we have a crucial opportunity to make a difference to all students who walk into our classrooms every day. Some of our students face many challenges daily from their experiences at home and school. We can be the difference makers for our children and better prepare them for the future they deserve; continuing his work of ensuring equality and opportunity for all. As we reflect back on his words and hopes for America those ideas should live on, and it’s up to us to keep the candle of his ideas burning bright. Thank you for making sure that our classrooms and hallways are no place for hate, bullying, or prejudice. Love what you do, never forget why you do it!
Kudos
- Tony White. Kudos for going above and beyond and always being there for emergency transportation issues and stepping up to drive at the last minute when regular drivers are out or we have vacant positions.
- Penny Fleet. Kudos for an outstanding job leading the TAPR Public Hearing. For those of you who are not familiar with the TAPR Report it is quite cumbersome and can be hard to follow. Mrs. Fleet did a very thorough presentation and the presentation was filled with helpful info.
- Mrs. Whittington. Thanks for presenting to the board on the plans of The Spill!
- Mr. Justice. Thanks for the energy you brought to the board meeting presenting on behalf of his students and their future plans to visit the Big Apple! Again, thanks for being here on a holiday.
- Diana Miller, Karen Plumlee, and Tandy Deason would like to thank all of their primary co-workers during the stressful time with their children recently. They are so thankful to be a part of the Spring Hill Family.
- From Mrs. Mayfield - 30 Primary teachers had perfect attendance last six weeks. That is awesome!
- Update on Debbie Qualls. She is doing great! She is back home and is ahead of schedule. Rumor has it, she might even be back at work soon. Great News!
Family Concerns
- SRO Roger Askew lost his father recently after a short battle with Colon Cancer. We missed you while you were out and are glad to have you back this week.
- Karen Brundrett recently lost her father. We missed you while you were out and are glad to have you back this week as well.
- Primary School teacher Diana Miller and her daughter, freshman A. Miller were in a car wreck over the weekend. They escaped with out injury, are a little shaken up, but are doing fine. The car....not so much.
- Lee-Ann Hunt's mother-in-law is fighting lung cancer. She will actually be retiring at the end of March to be able to spend time assisting her in the fight.
Panther of the Month. SHISD is pleased to announce that we will recognize a student from each campus as Panther of the Month. This month we had 4 outstanding winners (pictured below). Each winner was given a certificate and was showered with praise from their principal. Thank you to these great students for setting an example of citizenship, character, and Panther Pride! We will have a teacher and support staff of the month as well.

Miles that Matter
“The miles can build you UP, or the miles can wear you DOWN…its all how you approach it”
Due to recent events at SHISD, the CC and long distance track team are committing to running for a greater purpose. Throughout the year our teams run countless miles to get into shape, to do well in meets and help bring home team titles. Yet, over the past few months we have become driven to running for a greater purpose. Throughout the 2015 track season, the mid and long distance runners are committing to making each mile matter, as we run along the streets of Longview and the SH track. Our GOAL is to run an accumulative of 2,000 miles over the course of track season. We are asking for people to help donate any amount they choose toward each mile we run. Our goal is to raise funds towards our program, at the same time support our classmate Savannah Wulbrecht. Please contact Coach Eudy (Jeudy@shisd.net) or any XC/Track runner to donate!
