The Weekly Roar
February 11, 2019
Happy Valentine's Day!
5th grade will have their Valentine's Day party on February 14th from 10:30 to 12:00. We will have a Valentine card exchange and a few snacks.
If your child wishes to bring something to pass out for the exchange, they need to bring one for every student in their homeroom class. Mrs. Schluter has 26 students in her homeroom class. Mrs. Blackman has 25 students in her homeroom class.
Your student can decorate a box to receive their Valentines in, and there will be a contest for those who wish to participate. The students will be judging in categories for, most original, most sports-like, most creative, most Valentiney (Is that a word?), etc.
Please click on the button below, if you would like to sign up to bring an item(s) for the 5th grade Valentine's Day party.
Thank you,
Mrs. Schluter and Mrs. Blackman
KINDNESS WEEK: 2/11-2/15
Our school will be celebrating all week! We encourage everyone to carry out random acts of kindness during the week. The smallest acts, that don't cost a thing, can bring the greatest joy to someone! Spread the kindness!
Our week coming up at a glance:
*****PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE CHANGE IN DATE FOR THE SPELLING AND READING VOCABULARY QUIZZES, DUE TO OUR VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY*****

- Reading Assessment: NO READING ASSESSMENT THIS WEEK!
- We will continue working on our fREADom reading.
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.

- Reading Vocabulary Words/Phrases: conflict, dialogue, dramatic adaptation, original text, play, playwright, plot, scene, script, excerpt (We are in review. These should look familiar.)
- Reading Vocabulary Quiz: Wednesday, February 13, 2019
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
- We will be talking about the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution, and the three branches of government. We will also be moving into the Bill of Rights, why we needed them and how they protect the liberties of American citizens.
