A Message from Dr. Kaminski
BSE Parents and Guardians,
I want to send a sincere thank you to all of you who have supported the BSE PTO Read-A-Thon this week. Our BSE Bears are reading like crazy and have been motivated by your support of the event. This morning the PTO launched a stretch goal that will provide the class with the highest percentage of reading on the end date of September 11th with a special outdoor project. The students were thrilled to hear that they could be the actual planners for this new project and have a huge impact on their fellow students outdoor play and learning.
Speaking of outdoor learning, last year Mrs. Arndt received a grant for a greenhouse. We have the greenhouse in our possession and we are looking for parents who might have an interest in helping build and install the greenhouse at BSE. If you are a bit of a handy person or have a passion for gardens, join Todd Hudson (BSE Parent) at BSE on September 12th at 5 pm. This meeting will take place in the library and will kick off a planning session. We appreciate any and all help with this project!
September is upon us and that means a long weekend for our BSE Bear students and staff. Enjoy your family time, keep the reading maxed out, and take a minute to breathe and relax.
Thank you all for the support you offer our BSE staff and students.
Dana Kaminski
REMINDER: BSE IS PILOTING A PEANUT/TREE NUT ALLERGY FRIENDLY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT 2017-2018
Here at Brooks School Elementary, we make the safety and well-being of every student our top priority. That’s why we’re going to pilot a new program to reduce students’ exposure to peanuts and tree nuts.
During the 2017-18 school year, BSE is going to be a peanut and nut-friendly building. In order to do this, we need your help. We ask that you do not send your child to school with anything containing peanuts or other tree nuts, such as: almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, and pistachios. We will also not serve anything in our cafeteria made with peanuts or tree nuts.
Please remember if your child has a severe food allergy, it is imperative that you notify the school nurse. Also, if they require an Epi-pen, emergency medication orders must be signed by the child’s physician each school year.
Becoming a peanut and nut-friendly building is a collaborative effort. Students will not be punished if they bring in food containing nuts, so we cannot guarantee that children with allergies will not have accidental exposure.
This is a learning process for all of us, but we trust that you understand how important is to respect and adhere to these guidelines.
Student Fees
Payment options are:
- e~Funds For Schools (click here): If you have not yet set up your account, you will need your child(ren)'s six-digit ID, which you can find on your Skyward account under Student Info as "Other ID"

Art to Remember
Science Club (grades 1-4)
Brooks School 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders are invited to participate in the BSE Science Club. The club’s focus will be on helping participants learn the scientific method through fun activities. We will spend part of our time creating science fair projects. These projects will be entered in the BSE Science Fair. More information will be given at the parent meeting on Thursday, September 7. For your convenience, parent sessions will be offered at both 5:00 and 6:00 PM in the BSE library. There is no need to come to both parent meetings, as we will go over the same information at each one. Our schedule is attached. We will normally meet at the school’s front entrance.
Thank you!
Child Find

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matches to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
Read-A-Thon
We are at our half way point of the Read-A-Thon and our kids are doing great! Thank you for encouraging your kids to read and for supporting our school! We've got some exciting news! If we can raise $25,000 as a school we will build an Outdoor Discovery Area for our playground! The grade that earns the most donations will have the opportunity to design it! We can do this! Thanks so much for your support! Click here to see how the school is doing!
