Absences

Absences:

When a student has missed school, a note from the parent/guardian must be received by the school office. The note must contain the following information:

- reason for the absence,

- the date(s) of the absence,

- the signature of the parent or other authorized person, and

- a telephone number where the parent or other authorized person may be reached during the day.

When a note is not submitted, the absence will be considered unexcused. Each student is allowed 5 notes per semester. Please submit doctor's notes or other professional notes to excuse a student if the absence is due to an appointment. School personnel will implement the following steps to improve attendance:


1st - 2nd continuous unverified/unexcused absences - AUTOMATED CALL home is made

3rd unverified/unexcused absences - CALL home is made

4th unverified/unexcused absences - LETTER is sent home

5th-7th unverified/unexcused absences - ATTENDANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN is developed with follow-ups

8th unverified/unexcused absences - Attendance Care Team makes TRUANCY REFERRAL and meeting scheduled with administrator

10th unverified/unexcused absences - TRUANCY court process initiated

12th-15th unverified/unexcused absences - family may be referred to Social Services/CARES team

15th + unverified/unexcused absences - CHINS disposition/CHINS order filed; other violations may result per court liaison or judge

Optional Insurance for Chromebooks

Attention Parents/Guardians of Grades 3-5 Students:


If you are interested in purchasing insurance for your child's Chromebook, please return a completed form and payment no later than Thursday, September 22, 2022.

School Hours

Students may be dropped off at school beginning at 8:35a.m. The school day officially begins at 8:55a.m. Any student who arrives after 8:55a.m. will be considered tardy and must be signed in by a parent/guardian in the front office. The school day ends at 3:50p.m. Any student who is picked up prior to 3:50p.m. will be considered an early dismissal. Both tardies and early dismissals impact student attendance and this information is notated in their school records.



Please contact the school office if your student(s) will be a daily pick up. We will place daily pick up students on the daily pick up list. For student(s) who are occasional pick ups, parents/guardians must contact the school office by 3:00p.m. that day to ensure their student(s) is not placed on the school bus to go home. Daily pick ups will not be released from school until 3:50p.m. See dismissal procedures below.

Morning Drop Off

Parents/guardians may drop off their student(s) at 8:35a.m. in the drop off loop, located in the main parking lot. Your child will be welcomed by school employees at the drop off loop, therefore the driver does not need to exit the vehicle. We ask that the driver place their vehicle in park while the student(s) prepare to exit the vehicle. The school employee will open and close the door, if needed.


Buses will dismiss students in the bus loop, located in the front of the school. Only buses are allowed to drop off students in the bus loop from 8:35a.m. - 8:55a.m. Vehicles are not allowed in the bus loop during this time frame.

Afternoon Dismissal

Afternoon dismissal will begin at 3:50p.m. Bus dismissal will occur first in the bus loop, located in the front of the school, beginning at 3:50p.m. Once all bus riders have been placed on their designated bus, then the buses will be dismissed from the bus loop. Note: The first week may take a little longer to ensure all bus riders are on their respective buses.


Families who wish to pick up their child(ren) from school must line up in the parking lot to the right of the school, in the main parking lot. (Each parent/guardian must present valid identification prior to receiving their student(s) AND be listed as a student pick up contact in PowerSchool.) Please remain in your vehicles while you wait for your child. Once buses have been dismissed, families will be signaled to move their cars into the bus loop. Please do not enter the bus loop until all buses have been dismissed. Once you enter the bus loop and move your vehicle as far forward as possible, please turn off your vehicle and wait for your child(ren) to be brought to you. Students will be called in the same order as the arrival of the vehicle. All vehicle engines are to remain off until all students have safely entered their vehicles. Once everyone in the loop is in their vehicles and buckled, a signal will be given, and all vehicles may then exit the bus loop. Please wait your turn while exiting the loop and do not pull around another vehicle. The second round of families can then enter the bus loop, turn off their vehicles, and wait for their child to be brought to them. Again, all vehicle engines will remain off until all students are loaded. This process will repeat until all students have been dismissed. We understand that this process will take time and we appreciate your patience and kindness as we make the safety of our students our first priority.

Bus Protocols

Please make sure that an adult is at the bus stop to receive their student each afternoon. In the event that no one is available to receive the student, then they will be returned to school and parents/guardians will be contacted and required to pick up the student from the school's front office.

Kangaroo Kids (Before & After School Care)

Students who attend Kangaroo Kids will remain in before school care until 8:35a.m. and will enter after school care at 3:50p.m.


Kangaroo Kidz – Kangaroo Kidz offers a fun and safe environment for children at Carrsville Elementary School only. During the program children will have time for games, arts and crafts, and homework. This program is open to Carrsville students kindergarten-5th grade. Call 757-569-9810 for more information.
