Dear Robert Hunter families,
On Monday, we do not have school in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please take some time to discuss the significance of this day with your children.
We continue to be so impressed with the great work that our students and staff are doing every day. Even though we have increased COVID restrictions, our Robert Hunter learning community will find ways to connect and engage our students and families. This week, we met with our PTO board and discussed some ideas for upcoming family events that will allow us to connect even though we can’t all be together at the building. More information is coming soon!
We are dedicated to maintaining our school connectedness. We will be having weekly grade level mindfulness sessions starting this week that will be held virtually. Our buddy classes have continued to find ways to meet. We continue to have spirit days and celebrate school unity (we loved seeing students learning with their stuffed animals!).
We look forward to a time when concerns surrounding COVID subside, but for now - we are doing everything we can to make school great for our kids.
Please be sure to read below regarding some important announcements. Thank you!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Glaab and Mrs. Braynor

Welcome Mrs. Whalen!
We are so pleased to announce Mrs. Jeannie Whalen as our new school secretary! She will be joining Mrs. Wendy Chambers in our main office. Please send emails to the office using her email address - jwhalen@frsd.k12.nj.us. Any communication regarding parent pick-up should be sent to Mrs. Whalen, along with Mrs. Chambers.
Lunches/Snacks
Students will continue to be socially distanced during lunchtime. To accommodate social distancing for all our students, children will be eating on a rotational basis either in the cafeteria, or alternate locations in a classroom or library. Children will all be seated at desks/ tables that are distanced approximately 6 feet.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness sessions will be held virtually in the students’ classrooms starting this week and will be led by mindfulness experts from the Pratyush Sinha Foundation. Mindfulness is a scientifically-based approach to developing focused attention and emotional regulation. It also includes the intentional nurturing of positive states of mind such as empathy and kindness. Studies find that learning mindfulness benefits students in terms of improved attention, emotion regulation, behavior in school, empathy and understanding of others, social skills, test anxiety, and stress. We are excited to continue our mindfulness initiative at Robert Hunter.
MAP Growth Testing
We will be administering NWEA’s MAP growth testing this week. This testing will allow us to better understand our students’ academic needs and target instruction to best support them.
The district will administer the NWEA's MAP growth reading and mathematics assessments. Your child will be administered the computer-based assessment during his/her regularly scheduled English Language Arts and Mathematics classes.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration is rapidly approaching! Families of incoming kindergarten children can find registration information here.
After school Support Program Pick-up
If a family picks up their child after one of our afterschool programs, we ask all families to park in the parking lot. Only our school buses will be permitted to park in the area near the front doors.
Spirit Day
Our 4th graders have planned Fort Day for Friday, January 21st! Students may bring sheets/blankets/towels to help them create their classroom forts! Students are also encouraged to wear spiritwear/school colors.
