Good evening, Viking Families,


We did it...it's the last week of the 2022-2023 school year!


It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over, but I know we're all excited that summer fun is just around the corner!


We hope you will help us give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Stacy, our Instructional Assistant of the Year!!! Thank you for your commitment to students, staff, & our school community. You are appreciated and we are excited to celebrate YOU!!


There are many important bits & pieces throughout this newsletter, so please read it carefully.

  • Guilford County Schools is excited to offer a variety of summer learning opportunities. Summer programs will be the first step toward supporting students in all areas of learning recovery. Summer opportunities include: Academic Programming(contact your school) , Enrichment Camps and Summer Arts Institute.       Open House is on Thursday, August 24th & the time is based on your child's last name:
      • A to G 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
      • H to O 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM
      • P to Z 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
      • Kona Ice will be available for purchase!
      • Our PTO & other community partners will also be present at Open House.

      Who will teach my child next year?

      • Information regarding class rosters can be found below.
      • Families are notified of their child's teacher a few days prior to Open House.
      • If for some reason you do not know who your teacher is, do not worry! We will tell you your child's teacher at Open House.

      Class Rosters

      Please complete this survey by Friday, June 23, 2023. (Same link as the one at the beginning of this newsletter!)


      At Colfax, we believe it is critical that each child is placed in the right learning environment, with an excellent teacher & a well-balanced class.


      We ask that you complete a brief online form to tell us more about your child, from your own perspective. Click the link above or scan the QR Code below to access the form.

      Your input will be utilized, along with other data, information, and staff feedback, to help us place your child with the right teacher and peers. The form should be completed one time for each child that will attend Colfax next year.

      In addition, one of the questions asks for your child's t-shirt size. The last question also provides a safe space to elevate any additional concerns or feedback you wish to share with administration. Keep in mind that we do not honor teacher requests, so please do not ask for a specific teacher.

      Our process for creating class rosters is intentional and designed to ensure ALL students have equity of access and opportunity at Colfax so that every Viking can reach their full potential! You can read more about the process we established to create class rosters by clicking this link.

      • Remember, that any adult who plans to volunteer for any period of time or who plans to chaperone a field trip must be an approved volunteer.
      • This form must be completed each school year, so even if you did it a few months ago, please go ahead and do it again.

      The Guilford Parent Academy provides FREE ONLINE Resources:


      • Guilford Parent Academy gives you access to our free online resources, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Help your children practice reading, work on math skills, read eBooks, begin conversations about emotional topics and more!

      • There's even resources for parents! Parents can access GED prep, U.S. citizenship test prep, Microsoft Office support and career resources, including popular job search links. Parents can also get live, online interview practice from trained job coaches, and receive resume and cover letter assistance from trained resume experts.

      Free & Reduced Lunch Applications
      • The application window for free or reduced school meals is now open.
      • The federal program that provided free meals for students for the past two years is over. Families will now have to apply for free school meals.
      • Filling out an application is easy and can be found on our website or at www.lunchapplication.com
