Butler Bulldog Weekly Update
Keep Up On What’s Going On in Your School From Week to Week
Principal’s Corner
Week one is in the books! Can you believe it?! I am humbled and honored to go on this journey with you. Shout out to the many, many hands who made sure this week went as smoothly as it could. Were there bumps? Of course. Were there bruises? Eh, maybe a couple. In the end, the launch of the 22-23 School Year was a veritable success. I have left the school nearly every day beaming with pride. Our work is about to get very real. Get your rest, drink your tea, and meditate in absolute silence because when we return, the players will assume position, the bleachers will roar and it is GAME ON!

Preparing For Next Week…
It’s a bit of a surprise for all of us how many people are coming into our building each day. Not only are there more positions in our building based on the new district initiatives but we have, through tireless efforts, been able to fill nearly all of our open roles for the fall. What this means is that where an office or room had one person, now there may be two or three. We are operating nearly at capacity. Last year, due to external conditions, we were severely under capacity. This year shows us what a fully staffed school looks like—and especially in week one—it’s busy, it’s noisy and can occasionally feel chaotic.
To that end, YOU can help! Please try to be conscientious of the newness of everything while understanding that our open spaces, such as the front foyer, front office, gym, library and cafeteria are people’s workspace and offices. These are also, often public facing for parents and other guests. Maintaining calm and respecting boundaries is essential as we move through the paces of these busy days.
Please also keep in mind:
- For the sake of order and for maintaining confidentiality, please do not go behind the front desk without asking our Clerk, Laura Morse, or the other staff whose workspace it is you are entering.
- Try to keep collegial conversations out of the front office as communications on the phone, over the intercom, and between parents and admin are made more difficult.
- Please make sure you sign in every morning when you arrive. We are required to keep a daily record of our school's attendance. If you leave the building for a break, there’s a quick sign-in/sign-out, so we know who has left.
- If you need to call out, do not text the Principal, Assistant Principals, or other staff as official notice. You need to put all absences into AESOP. If you are out due to PD, your supervisor needs to submit paperwork to try to secure a substitute. This needs to be signed off by the principal and submitted as early as possible to Laura Morse.
- If you need an administrator to come to your room, the best action to take is to call down to the main office and Laura Morse locate an Admin on the walkie system. Do not send children to the nurse or office AT ANY TIME without ensuring the School Clerk or School Nurse knows and agrees it is a good time. COVID protocols are still in place for certain areas of the building, and we need to respect and follow orders.
- Please assist with order by walking your students to their Allied Arts or down to the lunch room for the first few weeks until they know where it is. Be in the hallway during transitions at the end of the day and throughout. Ask your homeroom buddy to help usher students into the class in the morning.
- Do not allow more than one student to leave your class for the restroom at a time. Use a pass system and a sign-out sheet to keep records so that during grade level CPTs, if you detect an issue, you can cross-reference these notes with your team.
That's all for now! Check in next week for any housekeeping items we've missed. Everyone is doing a great job! Keep Calm and March On!

Put This On Your Calendar: BMS Parent Open House
Thursday, 9/15, we will invite parents to the OPEN HOUSE. This is a chance for you to present as individual teachers and also grade level teams, discussing the instructional focus for this year, the subject and units we will cover, who to contact and how to contact, and what we do every day to ensure children feel welcomed, supported, and academically challenged at school. 7:00 - 7:30 will be time for parents to learn about what's going on from a whole school perspective and meet the administration team.
