Steps to Becoming a US Citizen

Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older to file an application
- Permanent resident for 5 years (also requires a green card)
- Be able to prove that you have been physically present in America for at least 30 months out of the 5 years
- Show that you've lived for at least 3 months in the stare or USCIS
- Have good moral character
- Demonstrate an attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution
- Read, write, and speak basic English
- Understanding of U.S. history and the U.S. government
- Take oath of allegiance to the United States
Steps to Become A Citizen
- Determine if you're ready to become a U.S. citizen
- Determine if you're eligible to be a U.S. citizen
- Prepare your application
- Submit your application
- Go to biometrics appointment (if available)
- Complete the interview
- Receive a decision from USCIS on your form
- Receive a notice to take the oath of allegiance
- Take the oath of allegiance
- Understand U.S. citizenship
