the Sunrise Scoop
The Week of May 23rd
Principal's Message
We are entering our final week of the 2021-2022 school year. I would like to personally thank our Sunrise parents, families, and community partners for your continuous support of our Sunrise staff and students. Thank you for your participation, communication, and help at home in making our sea turtles' educational journey the best it can be. Thank you for helping us overcome our challenges this year, and thank you for your part in making Sunrise Elementary a joyful and remarkable school. It takes everyone's support to properly love and care for an educational community, and we truly have this at Sunrise. Thank you all!
Please remember, Monday is a full day of school. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are Early Dismissal days at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, May 26th, is the last day of school for all students. Student report cards will be sent home on Thursday. Student supply lists for next school year should be in your child's report card envelope.
We will hold our annual Registration Day on Friday, August 5th from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Every student needs to have a parent in attendance on this day to receive the teacher assignment, set up transportation, and receive important back to school information. We strongly recommend for all students to be pre-registered before this day so you do not spend a few hours completing paper work on Registration Day. Over the summer, our school office hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you need to register your child, please come in and do so as soon as possible.
On behalf of our Sunrise staff, we wish all of our Sea Turtle students and families a safe, fun, and restful summer vacation!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jost

PTO and School Advisory Council (SAC)
Our final PTO and SAC meeting for the 21-22 school year was held on May 9th. Thank you to everyone who attended. We will resume with PTO and SAC in August. Our meeting time will be afterschool on designated Mondays (1 per month). We will announce these dates once we get them scheduled. After registration day in August, we will facilitate procedures, according to established bylaws, to determine the upcoming year's voting SAC members. We want new Sunrise families to have the opportunity to join SAC. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings. You do not have to be a voting member. We encourage you to participate!
Upcoming Sunrise Spirit Days & Events
Texas Roadhouse Sunrise Spirit Nights for the 21-22 School Year
Our business partners at Texas Roadhouse on Malabar Road want to help support Sunrise! They have offered to donate a percentage of their earnings from our families who dine with them on the following dates this school year. Any purchases made between 4-8 p.m. on the following dates will count toward supporting our school, but you must mention Sunrise Elementary. They do honor take out dining purchases as part of our spirit night as an option for our families who do not wish to dine indoors. Enjoy dinner together while helping our school! Thank you!

Sunrise is a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Model School
We center our actions on core standards of Be Safe! Work Hard! Be Kind! Students earn tokens and positive office referrals for going above and beyond to demonstrate these three Sunrise Standards and our PBIS expectations which fall under these standards. Students use their earned tokens to spend in our quarterly PBIS store. Please continue to encourage your sea turtles to follow our Sunrise Standards: Be Safe! Work Hard! Be Kind!
Positive Office Referrals: Students also enjoy receiving Positive Office Referrals for going above and beyond to demonstrate these Sunrise Standards. When students receive a Positive Office Referral, they receive a phone call from Mrs. Jost and Mrs. Isaacs into their classroom. The teacher places the call on “speaker phone” and the entire class gets to celebrate and congratulate their classmate on the referral. The student also receives a free kid’s meal from our business partners at Texas Roadhouse, along with administration’s specialty charms (Mrs. Jost’s is a dolphin and Mrs. Isaac’s is a lightning bolt) and a pencil. These charms are worth 2 at our quarterly PBIS thumb store. Students are also recognized and congratulated on WSUN, our morning news network. Student’s names are also written each quarter on the PBIS bulletin board outside of the front office. Parents, please be on the lookout for these referrals in your child’s backpack. We do send a copy home.
PBIS Standards Posters: Being a model PBIS school requires us to fulfill specific PBIS guidelines and expectations. One of these requirements is to ensure we have our standards posted around the school expectations are visible and clear to students and staff. We have expectations for the hallway, recess, cafeteria, and classroom. Positive Behavior Intervention Support also requires the school and home working together in partnership to model, teach, and uphold our Sunrise Standards and expectations. We thank our Sunrise parents and families for using our standard language at home and supporting us in this important work.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Morning Arrival Reminders
We thank you for adhering to our campus safety guidelines of not dropping off your child earlier than 7:30 a.m. as there is no supervision on campus until 7:30 a.m.
If your child will be eating breakfast at school, please drop off your child no later than 7:40 a.m. so there is time to eat before instruction begins at 8 a.m. Late student arrivals (after 8 a.m.) must be escorted to the front office by a parent for check-in. The morning car loop begins wrapping up around 7:55 a.m.
Please do not drop your child off in the parking lot unattended. If you are not using the car loop, please park your vehicle and escort your child to the cross walk to cross with Mr. Grugan, our P.E. coach. Elementary students must be carefully supervised around moving vehicles. Thank you for keeping our students safe!
Tardy Students
Any student arriving after 8:00 a.m. must be escorted to the front office and signed in by a parent/guardian. The student must be present in the office with you to receive a tardy slip by one of our staff members. Please do not send your child to class prior to them receiving their tardy slip by a Sunrise employee. Thank you!
Dismissal Reminders
Dismissal is 2:30 p.m. daily and 1:15 p.m. EVERY Friday
Please note, our dismissal will be delayed if there is rainy or inclement weather during this time. Your patience is appreciated.
Approved Methods for Student Dismissal
Registered Bus Rider, Sunrise BAS program, Private Daycare Van Rider, Biker/Walker* (no vehicle drive ups*), or Car Loop
Dismissal via parent walk-up is not permitted. If you have a one-time specific circumstance, please go to the front office. Our staff will be happy to assist you. *Parents are welcome to walk-up to our biker/walker gate to meet their child to walk home. Parents entering the front gates via vehicle for student pick-up must use the car loop please.
We kindly ask you do not check out your students to avoid the car loop. Beginning at 2:15 p.m., our office staff begins working to help ensure our entire campus of students get home correctly and safely.
Car Loop Procedures
Please use both lanes of traffic once you pass the Welcome to Sunrise sign at the front entrance past the gates. If both lanes are not used, traffic will back up onto Mara Loma Blvd. and Babcock Street. Please do not block the lane of traffic used for vehicles exiting the parking lot. Form the second lane once you pass the welcome sign please. Once you approach the front of the school, a Sunrise staff member will help you merge to the correct lane for the pick-up of your student(s). If you are only picking up PreK or Kinder students, you will merge into the left lane and bypass the pick-up line in front of the school. You will get into line at the west end of the building near the bike rack for PreK/Kinder pick-up. If you are picking up 1st through 6th grade students, you will merge into the right lane and proceed to the pick-up line directly in front of the school. If you are picking up both, you will merge into the right lane to pick up your 1st through 6th grader(s) first, and then you will proceed down to the PreK/Kindergarten line. Our car loop will be slow during inclement weather. We thank you in advance for your patience. For your planning, our car loop has been running from 2:30 p.m. to about 2:45/2:50 p.m. Our goal is always student safety first. Please keep your car tag visible for our staff to see while in the car loop.
Inclement Weather Dismissal Procedures
If lightning is in the area, the release of students will be delayed until severe weather passes.
If weather is too severe for PreK and Kinder car rider students to release at the west end of the building, they will be moved to the front area of the building, which is covered. The car loop will run more slowly on these days. We will send a text message to notify parents if this decision is made.
Bikers and walkers will be held at school until heavy rain and/or lightning passes. Students may be checked out in the front office by someone on their approved pick up list. Please ensure pick-ups have a photo ID.
Weather in Florida can be unpredictable and changes can occur quickly. We will always do our best to communicate with parents via text message regarding dismissal changes. Thank you for your patience and support during these times.
Please always have your car tag or photo ID visible when picking up students! Thank you!
Volunteering at Sunrise

Important: We love volunteers, and we welcome the help! There are important guidelines volunteers must follow while serving on our campus. All volunteering must be pre-arranged and scheduled ahead of time with a Sunrise teacher or staff member. Volunteers must be serving a specific purpose while on campus and remain in designated volunteer areas. Volunteers are not permitted to help in the clinic and front/administrative office areas. All volunteers must complete a Sunrise Orientation Training each year prior to volunteering at Sunrise.
