Franklin Lakes Public Schools
Elementary School Libraries- Volume 1
Library News
This year there are two library media specialists teaching the children in the elementary schools. We’d like to introduce ourselves.
I am Laura Fleming and this is my 25th year teaching. I have taught grades K-College. I have a wonderful son and we live in Franklin Lakes.
We are currently working on organizing the shelves in the library and moving collections to allow for the children to more easily find the books they want.
We are happy to say that come January, our volunteers will be welcomed back into the library. This will give us the time needed to help the children find the right book to check out. Thanks for all your help.
Library Curriculum
This past summer, the library curriculum was revised to address the new New Jersey standards for Career Readiness, Life Literacies, and Key Skills as well as Computer Science and Design Thinking.
In addition to our existing unit on literature appreciation, we have added a makerspace Design and Engineering unit, where children can use their creativity and innovation to collaborate with other students to meet different design challenges.
Library Spotlight
The mission of our libraries is to foster the love of reading for pleasure and information by connecting our students, faculty, and administration with the resources, technology, and critical thinking skills they need to inspire learning. We will enrich lives by maintaining a nurturing, safe, fun, and inviting environment for all and strive to meet the needs of all ethnic, cultural, and educational differences for all patrons to excel in our global community. We will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to inspire learning and ensure that we have adequate resources to become 21st century learners.
We Love Books!
We strive to match books to students' interest. Students in grades K-3 have the opportunity to check books out once per week and that they are expected to return the books by the next library visit and grades 4-5 can check books out with the assistance of their classroom teachers during their scheduled times.
