Francis Sumner
- First African American to get a Ph. D in psychology.
- wrote the pedagogical seminary that eventually became the journal of genetic psychology.
- From 1930 to 1954 he was a fully appointed chair in psychology and did that until he died

- got excepted and passed tests to get into college at 15 but could not go due too no high school diploma
- graduated lincon university at 20
- within two years he received two bachelors degrees in English and a M.A.
- drafted to marines for two years
after school ( 1920-1930 )
- people though his work were responses to the eurocentric methods of psychology.
- Taught psychology and philosophy at three different collages
- during this time he published several articals
- In 1928 he became a fully chair in psychology at the department at Howard University.
Latter life ( 1928-1954 )
- Member in many as associations including the American Psychological Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Educational Research.
- Also known for translating over several languages.
- Died 1954 due to a heart attack.
