TIPS TO SUPPORT LEARNING AT HOME
- Set up a work space. This would be an area away from distractions that contains all the needed materials to complete school work.
- If you have more than one child, consider scheduling times for them to work. Attempting to oversee multiple children simultaneously may be challenging. Consider creating a rotating schedule to provide children with individual support throughout the day. The child/children not receiving support could read, do a chore, or take a break.
- Consider the appropriate amount of time for a child to work based on their age. For example, a 7-8 year old can be expected to stay focused on one activity for about 10 minutes. If your child is still working after the 10 minute time frame, great! Keep going. If not, let them stand up and stretch.
- Don't expect your child to complete an entire day's work in one sitting. A typical school day naturally has many built-in breaks. Allow for children to stand up, walk around, exercise. You will find that many teachers will incorporate movement breaks or brain boosts into their lessons.
- Children crave routine. Creating a routine for school days is crucial for a successful day. Work with your child to create a schedule that includes the time and the activity. Post it somewhere at home and work together to stick to it.
- Stay positive! Children will take our lead. Patience, flexibility and a positive attitude will go a long way. If you feel yourself becoming frustrated or stressed, take a break. This is good for kids and grown ups alike.
Stonegate Spotlight: STEM
The third quarter in STEM has been all about robotics! First graders have programmed Bee Bots to travel around Bee Bot towns that they created. They’re also now working on creating color codes to get Ozobots to do a desired action. Second graders have been working with Lego WeDo sets. Students are building Lego creations using motors and gears and then programming those creations to perform different “tricks”. Third and fourth graders have been programming Lego NXT robots. We’ve done everything from simply learning how to find our program on the robot, to using touch and light sensors to help our robots maneuver around and through obstacles. We are looking forward to the return of warm weather to get outside and start thinking about our school garden’s next growing season!
Thanks to everyone who came to our Family STEM and Wellness Night a few weeks ago. It was such fun to see the building buzzing with learning, excitement, and family fun!
Kindergarten Registration: Temporary Suspension
We are so excited to have you join us next year. We are temporarily suspending kindergarten registration while we are away from school. Please check back once schools resume again in April. Thank you!
Clinic Clothing
The clinic is in need of gently used clothing. The biggest need is boys and girls pants. If you are able to donate, it be greatly appreciated.
If your child is sent home with clothes from the clinic, please be sure to have your child bring them back once they have been cleaned. Thank you!
