Principal Thoughts

We have had two great weeks to the beginning of school. As most anyone can tell you who has driven in the traffic or has come to lunch, our enrollment numbers are up. Our enrollment numbers have increased by over 160 students. This has had quite an effect on our traffic patterns. (see article below) We will continue to work on being as efficient as possible while not compromising safety. The grades most influenced by our growth have been 5th grade and Pre-K. Our Superintendent, Matthew Gutierrez, and school board members are concerned with providing the needed personnel in order to offer a quality educational environment. Enrollment is up not just at Chavez but throughout the district. We appreciate your patience once again as we adapt to the increased numbers. We are still committed to providing quality education second to none. It still boils down to the teacher in the classroom and we have the best at Chavez. Our teachers have been working very hard establishing a creative and solid foundation for learning for the 2014-2015 school year. Thank you for supporting our teachers. They love their students.

Traffic Safety

We would like to thank our Chavez community for your patience as we have tweaked traffic procedures in order to be efficient and safe with our increased enrollment. Sitting in a car line is at the bottom of everyone's list, but what you are dropping off or picking up is at the top of everyone's list. The traffic line has improved tremendously from the first few days of school. Our teachers have done an excellent job of communication and getting students to the right place at the right time. With over 725 students it is a minor miracle that it all flows as well as it does everyday.

Please keep the following in mind.

* Please use the crosswalk to walk across traffic lanes. Drivers know to watch for crossing traffic at the crosswalks.

* Do not leave cars unattended in any traffic lane. If you must please park in the parking lot.

* Only drop off and pick up students on the inside lane. It is dangerous for students to cross traffic lanes from the outside lane.

* Please do not exceed 5 miles per hour in the traffic lanes. Some of our students are so small that you cannot see them in front of or behind your car.

* Be calm and anticipate traffic delays when you are in a hurry. The safety of all our students depends on all of us doing our part.

Once again, thank you so much for your patience and making safety a priority.
