Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
NWEA fall testing is finished and we are over half way through the first quarter!
ENGLISH
7th Grade: Students have until October 26 to meet their reading goal of 125,000 words. Please remind them to read at home. We will finish chapter 6 in our grammar book this week after covering the lessons on compound subjects and verbs, direct objects, and subject complements. On Friday, there will be a test over chapter 6.
8th Grade: We will finish chapter 6 in our grammar book this week after covering the lessons on compound subjects and verbs, direct objects, and subject complements. On Friday, there will be a test over chapter 6. We are also wrapping up our hero unit on commonlit and will be working on rough drafts of our hero essays.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We have been learning about life in the prehistoric times, Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages. Students have an assignment due Monday creating a restaurant menu using items available during the Neolithic age. We will be examining possible early migration routes as well as artifacts left behind from this time.

MATH
6th Grade: We finished our GCF and LCM chapter last week. This week we will be working with fractions. We will be comparing and ordering rational numbers using inequalities and number lines. There will be a quiz at the end of the week.
7th Grade: We finished our integer division and multiplication chapter last week. This week we will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with both positive and negative fractions. This is a great time to continue learning and practicing our math facts at home. There will be a quiz at the end of the week.
8th Grade: We finished our scientific notation chapter test last week. This week we will begin our unit on proportional relationships that exist in real life. These include events that rise or fall at a constant rate. There will be a quiz at the end of the week.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We are learning about characteristics of Michigan Ecosystems and will soon be exploring other types of ecosystems throughout the world. Students will have a research presentation coming up soon. They will have a project checklist and rubric to guide them.
7th Grade: Students will be starting projects for our Weather Unit this week. All projects will be due Friday October 19th for full credit. The project rubric will be handed out on Monday.
8th Grade: We finished our rocks unit last week with the test on Thursday. Students may do corrections on their test to increase their grade. Our next unit will be on Energy resources including the impact our current energy sources have on our global climate. Students will be completing a global climate change webquest with a group.
ART
6th Grade: Will be learning about one point perspective, in drawing and eventually painting.
MUSIC
6th grade: All students have an instrument and music book to practice out of. Please be watching for instruments to be coming home for practice.
7th and 8th grade: Students are working on 3 pieces of music. Please be watching for instruments to be coming home for practice. Students should be spending time on the piece “Strange Pursuit” at home.
