WOLF PACK HOWL
Timber Point Elementary Newsletter June 2023
Final Message From Principal Evans
Dear Timber Point Families and Community,
As you know, after thirty three years in education, I have made the decision to retire from the Byron Union School District.
It has been an amazing career marked by so many wonderful memories and experiences including my time as principal of this wonderful school community. For the past three years, it has been a joy to work alongside our hardworking and dedicated faculty and staff who value education and serve as models of professionalism in their work with students.
I extend my appreciation to our parents and community partners who have supported our school. You are instrumental in creating a rich, full learning experience for our students.
Finally, please know that it has been a pleasure and an honor to be part of the Timber Point Wolf Pack family. Your children have been a gift to me, and I will hold their smiles close to my heart as I move through the next chapter of my life. Have a fun and safe summer! We are the PACK!
Educationally yours,
Susan Evans

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR SCHOOL!
EVERY School Day Counts- Attendance is important
Support your child to be successful in school
Help your child understand that school is their very first job!
- Make great school attendance a priority for your child.
- Talk to your child about the importance of daily attendance in every class and how it helps his/her learning.
- When students miss so much school they will not be prepared for Kindergarten, learning to read by the third grade, failing courses in middle school and dropping out of high school.
Help your child develop good habits
- Help your child practice good daily habits like:
- finishing homework and placing it in his/her backpack
- laying out clothes and the backpack in the evening
- having a regular bedtime for a good night's sleep
- leaving early enough in the morning to get to school on time.
- turn off electronic devices one hour before bedtime.
- Help your child build responsibility skills by reminding them to make up any missed school work after an absence.
When your child is sick
- Only let your child stay home if he/she is truly sick. Sometimes complaints of a headache or stomachache might be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home. Contact the teacher for support if you think this might be happening.
- Follow the Illness/Injury guidelines if you are not sure if you should keep your child at home due to illness.
Illness or Injury Guidelines
For health and safety purposes, students should not be sent to school if they are showing signs of illness, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, constant coughing, sore throat, or untreated infected skin patches / rashes. It is advisable that students with a fever are kept at home until he/she is fever free for 24 hours, without benefit from a fever reducing agent. Parents should notify the school office by calling the attendance line at 925-809-7551 or emailing the office staff within 72 hours whenever their child is going to be absent from school due to illness or injury.
During school hours if your child feels ill or is injured, the office staff or health staff will determine if your child needs to be taken home by checking the following signs or symptoms according to procedures and protocols set by the district in accordance with California Ed. Code:
• Temperature of 100.2°F or above with complaints of moderate/severe illness or pain
• Difficult or rapid breathing (with no relief from medications provided by parent)
• Severe coughing
• Eyes that are red, swollen and draining
• Vomiting / diarrhea
• Severe pain
If any of these conditions exist, the office staff or health staff will notify the parents. Parents are responsible for picking up your child or arrange for a designated person to pick up the child promptly. The adult picking up the child must be on the Emergency Card and sign out the student in the school office.
If your child has a long-term medical condition (such as asthma, severe allergies or Anaphylaxis, diabetes, seizures, etc.), please make sure it is noted in Aeries through the parent portal. In addition, please check with the office secretary and/or health staff to obtain other forms that may need to be filled out by you and the doctor.
Appointments and Vacations
- Make every effort to schedule doctor, dentist, and other appointments after school hours.
- If your child must be out of school for an appointment, get him/her back to school for at least part of the school day. Please provide the office a note from the doctor’s office to excuse the absence or tardy.
- Plan vacations when school is not in session. Utilize our breaks and days off.
Attendance Notification
- Contact the school every time your child will be absent. All absences must be reported within 72 hours. Absences reported after 72 hours are unexcused. Call the attendance line at 925-809-7551 or email the office staff, Lisa Neri or Sonia Cubic
