Newsletter Week 3 Term 3

Titahi Bay Intermediate School Monday 9th August 2021

Principal's Korero

Who can believe that two weeks of the term have already passed. I would like to thank whānau who made the time last week to come in for our mid-year TE ARA Kōrero. We had just over 50% of whānau make a booking, so I have a number of mid-year reports to be distributed. If you were not able to make it then please call in at the office to collect your child's mid-year report.

We were trying something different with a focus of our students sharing their learning with whānau with the support of their teachers. As a staff we are going to review this and continue to refine this so that student voice is included with our TE ARA Kōrero in the future.

Our Student Inquiry for Terms 3 and 4 through line question is "How the World Works" with the big idea being 'Cause, Effect and Consequence'

Students knowledge and deep understandings is - Whatever we build, ends up building us

Key Competency - Connect yourself to the big picture

Taking Action - The best way to predict the future is to create it

We have made changes to our English programme this term to enable teachers to have a dedicated period for student inquiry. So Monday to Wednesday will focus on poem, novel followed by reading and writing programmes. Thursday will be dedicated to the student inquiry for 90 minutes.

We have two groups of students who are attending the Cannons Creek Boxing Academy on a Monday afternoon. These students are really enjoying this 1 hour workshop.

Over the next few weeks we have a few community fundraisers, so check out the information later in this newsletter to find out what, where, when and how much.

Make-a-Space initiative starts this Monday 9th August and will run for 6 weeks from 6.30 p.m. through to 8.30 p.m. If you have something to fix or would like to create a project that utilises the tools in our Hard Materials room, then come along.

TBI Quiz Night

Get your tickets this week as time is running out. Get a team together or come as an individual and join a table. The cost is $10.00 per person with $25.00 platters available on a pre-purchase system.

AIMS Games

Our Quick Rip Rugby 7's team are currently fundraising to support them to attend the annual NZAIMS Games being held in Tauranga during the early weeks of September. Last week we held a hangi with great success. I would like to thank whānau who supported this by purchasing hangi.

We would like to acknowledge Gull Edgecumbe who have sponsored the team with a $100.00 Gull voucher. Thanks for the Pohatu whānau for this.

The next big fundraiser is The Hilarious Hypnotist who many have heard about before. If you feel like coming along and having a bit of a laugh then purchase your tickets from the office for $25.00 per person. This event is for an adult audience and is being held on Saturday 28th August starting at 7.00 p.m. in our school hall. You can purchase a Hypnotist Ticket and a hangi for $35.00. There will also be quick fire raffles as well so bring a long some loose change.

Make A Space

If you have anything that is damaged or a project that requires a workshop environment then this is for you. As we are only starting out, this time will be for whanau of students currently enrolled at TBI. This will start on Monday 9th August between 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. and will run for 6 weeks.

Make your way to the Hard Materials room with your project, if you don't have a project but want to share ideas and help others then come along as well. We do have some projects to be created for our up and coming Production set.

TBI Open day 2021

Ka Ora, Ka Ako

It is great to see that our new system is working with more students eating their lunch or taking it home for whānau to share.

Kapura have made a change to the menu for this Monday due to feedback being received from their schools. The Week 1 Monday menu of Roast Kumara and Corn Salad will now be replaced with Chicken and Kumara.

Last weeks lunches were very tasty so it is good to the change in menu and lunches being a lot more tastier. We are planning the logistics with Kapura as they are planning to deliver a warm lunch for students.
