2022 Nebraska Teacher of the Year!
Mr. Perez, Buffett's English as a Second Language teacher, was named Nebraska 2022 Teacher of the Year today! Buffett's Library filled with the most important people in education to present the award including the OPS superintendent, Dr. Logan and Nebraska Commissioner, Matthew Blomstedt who presented the award to Mr. Perez.
In his classroom, Mr. Perez uses engagement strategies to help his students not only learn a new language, but also learn a new culture all while still staying true to their heritage. During his media interviews today, he noted that this was the first time a Nebraska ESL teacher has won this award. Mr. Perez is honored to represent Buffett and his students. He hopes that winning this award inspires other people of color to join the teaching profession.
We are so proud of Mr. Perez, his culturally responsive approach to teaching, and his huge accomplishment! He will move on to the National Teacher of the Year competition later this school year.

Buffett A's Quiz Bowl Team Takes Second
Last week, ten of Buffett's 7th & 8th graders went to the Career Center to compete in this year's first Quiz Bowl competition. The students were split up into three teams including two teams of four and a combo team.
Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge. Teams had 10 seconds to answer questions in history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, math and more.
After the morning rounds, the students competed in an afternoon of elimination rounds. Buffett A's team went undefeated until the final round vs. Marrs, where they took second place. Congratulations to our Quiz Bowl teams!
