Daily Health Checks
TEMPERATURE CHECK
Asking your child how they are feeling
Look at their face and eyes! This is the FIRST thing we look at when a child is sent to the nurse. Their little eyes will tell you how they are feeling way before symptoms often begin.
If they do not feel well, PLEASE do not send them to school. They can meet with their teacher virtually. If they feel better later in the morning, bring them on in!
Daily Mask Check!
Thanks for making sure they have several in their backpacks!
Negley Mission Statement
CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Navigator Parents!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Boosterthon Fundraiser. As soon as we get the results in, I will share those with you.
This week we will have 427 students returning to the building to continue their instruction. This is about 50% of our enrolled students. Our classes are set up using the "3 feet while wearing a mask model" in the classrooms, while we will be using the 6 feet without masks model during breakfast and lunch - because you can't eat with your mask on!
Students will be washing their hands and sanitizing frequently. As we did for the first 3 weeks, if we have a positive Covid case, we will send out an email to all families. If your child is directly affected by the positive case, you will be notified by Nurse Jill or me.
Please see the section below on parents dropping off students in the morning, and picking them up in the afternoon!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Parent Before School Drop Off Procedures
To help our drop off run smoothly and quickly, please have your child ready to get out of the car once we open the door. Face mask should be on.
PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TRANSPORTATION ID TAG WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME TO CAMPUS! Your child also needs to have their circle tag on their backpack!
If you have not yet picked up your transportation tag, you may check in with our Receptionist, Ms. Goodman, and pick yours up.
Two ways parents can drop off their student: Car rider line and Front Porch
Car Rider line procedures for this week:
The car rider line is located at the side of the building where the teacher parking lot is located. Please pull through the line until it stops. Once you reach the drop off area, you will be greeted by a Negley employee. You will be asked several questions: Child's name, grade, Health check, mask, and how your child will go home at the end of the day.
The teacher parking lot at the side of the building WILL NOT BE OPEN for parent parking. Once you enter the lot, you will need to proceed through the line. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND CARS WHO ARE STILL PARKED!
If you have a student who is handicapped and need to park, please use the lot at the front of the school. The drop off procedure will take a little bit of time this first week, but it will get faster.
Students will be escorted to their classroom!
If your child needs breakfast, they will be escorted to the cafeteria. Once finished, they will have an escort to their classroom. The cafeteria closes at 7:25 am. Students are expected to be in their classrooms, ready to begin the day, at 7:30 am.
Walkers, Bike riders, Parent walk ups with child procedures for this week:
Anyone who walks up to the front of the building will be greeted by a Negley employee. You will be asked several questions: Child's name, grade, health check, mask, and how your child will go home at the end of the day.
District Policy:
No visitors beyond the front doors. Parents are not allowed to walk their child to their classroom while Covid procedures are in place.
Parent After School PICK UP Procedures
BUSSES AND CAR RIDERS
At 3:10 pm we will dismiss school bus riders and after school care busses.
At 3:10 pm we will begin calling numbers for the car rider line.
Once a Negley employee begins calling numbers, students will be released to go to their car.
Bus riders will have a special tag they will need every day for getting on and off the bus. Do not worry about this tag right now. We have not received them. Once we do, you will know.
If you do not have your transportation tag, you will be asked to drive to the front, pick up your tags, and we will send your child to the front for pick up.
Please have your tag hanging from your rearview mirror OR your passenger side visor so that dismissal can go quickly.
PARENT PICK UP - WALKERS: NEW PROCEDURES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
At 3:15 pm. we will dismiss independent walkers, bike riders, and parent walk-ups.
Independent walkers will be allowed to go on their own, as well as bike riders.
STUDENTS BEING PICKED UP BY A PARENT AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL:
Parents will gather in assigned transportation tag areas BY THE FLAG POLES. At 3:15 Negley Employees will meet parents at the flag pole areas and begin calling transportation tag numbers. Once your number is called, you will proceed to the front porch area to pick up your child. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR TRANSPORTATION ID TAG IN ORDER TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD!
If you forget your tag, you will have to wait until all tag numbers are called and then we will escort you to the front desk. You will need to present your drivers license to Ms. Goodman to check our your child.
THIS IS A NEW PROCEDURE FOR US! PLEASE BRING YOUR TRANSPORTATION TAG AND YOUR PATIENCE AS WE WORK OUT THE KINKS!
TRANSPORTATION TAGS
ALL FAMILIES WILL NEED A TRANSPORTATION TAG IF THEY WILL BE PICKING UP THEIR CHILD FROM CAMPUS.
These tags are super important for picking up your child at dismissal. Each family has a distinct number - it is your family number. Instead of calling out your child's name for all to hear, we call your family number. Each family will receive 2 cards and 3 round discs that need to be attached to your child's backpack. If you need extras for another adult that may be picking up your child , just let our Receptionist, Ms. Goodman know when she gives you your original. There will be a $1.00 charge for extra cards OR to replace a lost card after this initial pick up. This fee is to help us with replacement materials. So - the first ones are FREE, but later on there will be the small charge.
PLEASE EMAIL MS. GOODMAN TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO PICK UP YOUR TRANSPORTATION TAGS or STOP BY THE RECEPTION AREA.
If you are picking up your child in the car rider line, these tags can hang from your passenger side visor using a rubber band or from your rearview mirror. It makes it easy for us to see and call your number. If you do not have your car tag, you will be asked to drive to the front office and present your ID in order to pick up your child.
If you are walking to the school to pick up your child, you will need to show your tag to your child's teacher OR the teacher on duty. They will check the number on the card with the tag attached to your child's backpack before releasing your student to you.
FOR OUR VIRTUAL PARENTS!
We cannot stress ENOUGH the importance of a distraction-free learning environment - or at least a distraction-reduced environment, at home. We understand how hard that is, but it is also very important. We want to make sure that they are as engaged and as focused on the material as possible. We know it's difficult and learning from home does pose some very unique challenges but we need to reiterate to them that, even though they're learning from home, they need to BEHAVE as if they were learning in a classroom at Negley. If it wouldn't be OK to do there, it's not OK do do here. 😊 We know it's tough - thank you for your support with this!
Learning at home and need lunch? You can get them for FREE at Kyle Elementary or Wallace Middle School
Students who are learning virtually at home can still enjoy breakfast and lunch. . Visit https://www.hayscisd.net/eat .
And have you heard? FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL IN-PERSON STUDENTS Through DECEMBER!!!
OOPS! - Please do NOT put your watter bottle in the dishwasher!

- The right to continue attending the school last attended, if that is your choice.
- The right to receive the same special programs and services.
- The right to receive transportation to school, depending upon the situation and location.

This week I wanted to encourage you to eat a good breakfast each morning. I know it's hard to find something quick, easy, and healthy to eat in the morning. So, here is my family's favorite quick morning meal!

(Overnight Oats)
1/4 cup Quick Oats or Rolled Oats (gluten free option)

1. Transportation Tags: These need to be picked up from me THIS WEEK! Anytime between 7:30 and 3:30.

3. Masks: Every student MUST BE wearing one, and have an EXTRA in their backpack every day
4. Water Bottles: Since water fountains are not available, every student needs a refillable bottle
5. Closed Campus: Parents will NOT be allowed past the reception desk. They will NOT be able to walk their kids to class. Parents will NOT be able to have lunch with their kids. Library News from Ms. Tierney
Thanks for another great week of library learning! This upcoming week, we will have about half of you coming to school in person and the other half will continue to have your library lessons through Schoology. So I will explain how library will be for each group below.
For in person students, library will take place once a week in the classroom beginning the week of October 5th. Your classroom teacher will let you know your library day because library is not part of the specials rotation for this 9 weeks. You will not be able to come to library but I will bring library to their classroom. I will have a collection of books to choose from a cart and I will show the older students how to hold books in the online catalog. This way they will be able to choose any book they want from our entire collection. I will have a tutorial for parents to do the same for the younger children. Books will be quarantined for 72 hours after they are returned to the library to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
For virtual students, library lessons will be on Schoology each week and you will be able to put books on hold to pick up during our “Curbside” library pick up which will happen two days a week, Monday during lunch and Friday after school. I will have a tutorial available through Schoology on how to put books on hold. Curbside will begin Monday, October 5th so be on the lookout this week for lessons on how to hold books in the library catalog. All returned books will be quarantined for 72 hours to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In the meantime, check out the tutorials I created for you to borrow e-books and audiobooks using our OverDrive account. You can log in to that by using your student ID (lunch #) as your username and password. Also, you can read e-books (interactive books that can read to you) in Destiny Discover (our library catalog). I created a tutorial for that as well. Your login for Destiny is: username: student ID# (lunch #) and password is your last name (all lower case Stay tuned and keep reading!
You can always check out the library website for great resources as well. If you don’t have access to the grade level library lessons I will provide the access codes for each grade level below. Have a great week and you can always email me if you have any questions, Colleen.Tierney@hayscisd.net.
