From the Principal
Dear Thornhill Families,
Walkathon is this Saturday November 3rd!
Science Friday—Minimum Day Friday November 2nd
NOVEMBER is Native American History Month
A fun part of being principal is getting to hang out with our students during recess. Sometimes I get to play basketball or referee a game. And this week, I got to observe these wonderful boys hanging out together. What a pleasure it is to see such joy and togetherness. Thornhill is truly a wonderful place!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Daubenspeck

Book Swap and Donation Drive
Reading is one of life's great joys but managing stacks of outgrown volumes is no fun. Has your student outgrown Eric Carle? Long to take a dip into Harry Potter territory? Want to clean off the shelves and maybe stock a few new favorites? Bring your GENTLY used volumes to the Walkathon. We will be collecting donations and trading books.
In addition, we will be accepting new and used donations to the Thornhill Library. Please check out the latest wish list for ideas. Any books not picked up by Thornhill students will be donated to the East Bay Book Project.
Questions? Contact Becky Urbano at vpsupport@thornhillschool.org.

Fuel Up for Our Fourth Graders
Thornhill’s fourth grade class is holding a big bake sale/fundraiser at the school Walkathon on Saturday, November 3. All of the money we raise will help offset costs of the class’ annual field trip to the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School. This overnight field trip in California's Gold Country is an incredible and fun learning experience, but costs have gone up this year, and we want to keep it as affordable as possible for everyone.
We will have a ton of baked goodies for sale, so please make sure to stop by (cash only please) to fuel up before the Walkathon, buy snacks in between laps, and take some home for Sunday morning treats. We’ll be selling cookies, muffins, cakes and bread by the slice and in small batches, and we may also have for sale a few whole cakes and/or pies.

Do You Know A Great Teacher’s Aide?
The PFC currently has one employee vacancy for a teacher’s aide. We’re reaching out to our great parent community with the hope that you’ll know someone who is interested in the position. This is a part-time position (approx. 25 hours per week) working with our amazing students and faculty! The ideal candidate is someone with experience working with elementary school aged students.
More details about the position can be found here. Questions can be sent to personnel@thornhillschool.org.
Thanks,

ColorCycle Update and Reminder
We have collected 20 LBS of used markers from our ColorCycle collection bins—AMAZING! Thank you so much for your help in reducing waste in our landfills! Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it.
We are collecting dried markers, dry-erase markers and highlighters to be recycled. As a parent, you can also help support our sustainability efforts by sending your kids to school with any used markers you may have around the house. ALL MARKER BRANDS WILL BE ACCEPTED! Please deposit any dried markers into one of the three ColorCycle collection boxes located in the teacher workroom, outside of Adventure Time and outside the multipurpose room.
These markers will be shipped to a facility to where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals all while keeping tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
