Dear OSES Families,
We had another great week here at OSES!
Picture Retake Day was this past Tuesday. If any students have missed BOTH picture days and would like a photo taken by Lifetouch, they are welcome to come to the Orlando Lifetouch studio on Saturday November 13th, anytime from 9:00 am to Noon. There is no appointment needed. More information is provided below
Next week is Red Ribbon Week! It is a nationwide event that promotes a drug free lifestyle. The theme this year is “Drug Free Looks Like Me.” Starting Monday, October 25th, OSES will have various activities to show our support of this campaign. This years theme is ''drug free looks like me''. Please see below for the dress up days.
Remember, no school on Friday October 29th!
Next Thursday October 28th is our annual Trunk or Treat event brought to you by the OSS UNICEF Club. Gather your biggest baskets and your flashiest costumes because from 5 to 7pm outside the elementary school, K-12 students will have the opportunity to play games, trick or treat, enter raffles, eat food and much more! All tickets purchased before the event are discounted, so submit the form provided Monday. If not, bring money the day of. All proceeds go to UNICEF’s WASH efforts in Haiti.

RED RIBBON WEEK
THE 2021 THEME
We’re excited to announce the 2021 National Red Ribbon Week Theme, Drug Free Looks Like Me™. Created by Marin Wurst, a 7th grader at Solon Middle School in Solon, Ohio, the Theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
TRUNK OR TREAT
The OSHS UNICEF Club is holding a Trunk or Treat for all OSS students grades K through 12. The event will take place on Thursday, October 28th, 2021 from 5pm to 7pm in the Building 1 & 2 parking lot. There will be decorated cars for trick or treating, a raffle, games, food, and so much more. Proceeds will go to UNICEF’s WASH efforts in Haiti.
Tickets are $5 for participating students and includes all of the games and trick-or-treating. Food, raffle tickets and snacks will be available for additional purchase. Supervising adults and children under 5 are FREE. TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE on 10/22.

Math: The students are working on their multiplication facts, specifically on their multiples of 10.
Science: We are learning about plant parts and their functions. Ask your child about what parts of the plants are and what they do.
Don’t forget to read and take AR tests! You need 11 points by the end of the month!

In music class, we are finishing up our Music FUNdamentals unit by playing chord progressions on the Boomwhackers! Next up is the Science of Sound unit, where we will combine music and STEM and create our own instruments out of recycled materials.

Students in grade k-5 PE class played hockey this week!
In character education this week, we talked about problem solving and conflict resolution. We found out how we deal with conflict and how we can become better problem solvers.

Students completed their iReady Reading Growth Monitoring check this week. Next week, students will participate in the Math Growth Monitoring check. Thank you to the PVO volunteers who assisted this week with proctoring!
Grades 3-6 will participate in Adaptive Progress Monitoring coming up in November. Please keep an eye out for a letter coming home with more information.

Please remember that you should not arrive on campus before clubs dismiss. Even coming 5 minutes early causes backups in our dismissal process.
- Building 1 (grades K-3) - clubs dismiss at 3:40 during the week and 2:40 on Wednesday
- Building 2 (grades 4-6)- clubs dismiss at 3:30 during the week and 2:30 on Wednesday
