Kindergarten Class News
September 9-13, 2019
It has been a busy week for our little Redhawks!
We have enjoyed pep fests, coronation, the Redhawks v. Teachers volleyball game, and the parade this afternoon!
Reading/Language Arts
Letter sounds: /a/ /m/ /s/
Sight Words: I, can, the, see, we (we also read the word "am" and word family words such as Sam, ram, bam, Pam, dam, ham, etc.)
Continue to work on: lower case letter identification and reread take home readers!
The kiddos enjoyed learning about Work on Writing this week, the second station that we have now added to our Daily 5 routine. We put their picture dictionaries and additional writing materials in their binders this week. We also worked on procedures for working in our handwriting workbooks independently.
Math
We completed our sorting unit and took the chapter assessment which was sent home on Thursday. These assessment pages are good indicators of how much your student understands the concept, so please look them over and continue to work on those skills at home. I circle what is wrong and then call each student back to go over it with them, but going over it again at home with mom and dad never hurts! Next up: 3D shapes and patterning!
Science
We learned about and discussed how animals need food, shelter, a way to keep themselves safe (a shell, hole to hid in, bright colors, etc.) from predators, and how they can alter the environment to help fit their needs (such as a woodpecker making a home by pecking a large hole in a tree, other animals can then use these holes for homes as well). We also talked about how plants need food/sunlight.
