Technology Information for your Classroom

October/November 2015

Saving to the F Drive!

As students are receiving their DLE Devices and you are planning for the 1:1 integration in your classroom, think about how and where students will be saving their projects and documents! The F Drive (first.last name drive for teachers; Student # for students) is an excellent place to save projects and documents! If the students' (or your) computer stops working, you will still have access to your information when you login to another computer. There are also less threats of viruses than with flash drives. Have your students create a folder with your name so they can better organize their documents. If you need help with this, please ask your school librarian or me!

Digital Communication Tools for Parents

Do you want a way to communicate to your parents outside of newsletters and emails? Class Dojo is not just for classroom management! You can also send text messages, share pictures, blast announcements, and know who and when the information was seen! Remind (formerly Remind101) is a way to message, chat, send files, voice clips, and announcements in a safe, private way! Parents, students, and other teachers do not receive your phone number, but can register their phone number for text message updates. You can also schedule announcements and messages for the week, month, or year, and view read receipts. If you are interested in setting these up, or want to know more digital communication tools, please let me know!

What the TECH is Going on?!

Techie Teachers Caught Educating with Technology!

Go Noodle for Classroom Management & Transitions!

Have you incorporated Go Noodle in your classroom? Mr. Todd, a 5th grade teacher at Watkins-Nance Elementary School, uses Go Noodle to transition his students from one activity to another. "As the students are dancing and following instructions from the selected Go Noodle module, I take advantage of the time by passing out materials for the next assignment and picking up materials from the previous assignment. Classroom rules and boundaries are given to students so that everyone has an opportunity to have fun and be safe. Go Noodle has become a mini-recess that the students enjoy. The class enjoys the dancing and social interactions as well as the liberty of deciding their own activities. I rotate the opportunity for the children to all have a chance to select a video and the fun begins! It has been an awesome resource to use within the classroom!"

QR Codes for Parent Communication!

Have you thought about using QR Codes to communicate to parents? Rebekah McLawhorn at Rosewood Elementary is doing just that! Her students created videos solving a word problem, and she uploaded the videos to OneDrive, then created QR Codes.

RtI & Technology Go Hand in Hand!

Ms. Lindsay Johnson at W. A. Perry Middle School is using OneDrive, iPads, DLE Devices, and Edmodo to differentiate her classroom and incorporate RtI strategies. "Thursday is the RtI day for science. Each station represents an indicator that we have covered this year. The students were grouped based on their weaknesses indicated by Mastery Connect. I recorded myself giving step-by-step instructions for the different activities at each station and uploaded the videos via OneDrive where I created a shareable link. I had a technology device for each station and I also uploaded the videos to Edmodo where the students can watch the directions as many times as they need to."
