Battle of the Books
Our 4th and 5th Graders are already preparing for this year's Battle of the Books. Students have been forming 3, 4 or 5 member teams and reading as many books on the selected "Battle of the Books" list as possible. Each team has a parent volunteer acting as their coach. An evening competition will be held in the NSE cafeteria and the group that gets the most points wins. Both the 1st and 2nd place teams will then go on to participate in a district competition with teams from the other participating schools. The NSE Battle of the Books competition will be held on March 14th, 2017 at 6:15 pm in the school cafeteria. The 1st and 2nd place teams from the NSE competition will move on to compete in the District Battle of the Books competition on March 23, 2017 (location and time yet to be determined).

Alpha Club Sponsors a "Pennies for Pasta" Fundraiser to Benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Alpha Club's' "Pennies for Pasta" event is being held in order to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This organization helps raise money for children with cancer. Classes will participate by bringing in pennies for a Penny War! Classrooms are trying to collect the most pennies.
Our school goal is to raise $2,000 or more. The classroom that collects the most pennies will win an Olive Garden lunch, including pasta, salad, and breadsticks! If our school raises the bar by collecting $2,500 or more, the second place classroom will win a pizza party lunch!
Our Alpha Club representatives will be visiting classrooms to share this information with their peers this week. Each student has or will receive an individual collection box. Students can take these home to start collecting pennies. Anytime their box gets full, students can bring it back to school and empty their collections into the classroom box. A parent letter with more information will also be coming home.
The Penny War will take place from March 6th - March 24th

Parking Lot Reminders and Information
Each morning and afternoon your continued cooperation and alertness in our parking lots helps to keep students safe. We appreciate your efforts in helping us maintain a safe environment for children. Therefore, we wanted to take a moment and remind you of our Parking Lot Guidelines. We have also included a map (see below) that we hope will assist in understanding traffic flow, pedestrian movement, and parking.
NSE Parking Lot Guidelines:
1. Constantly watch for children!
2. Drive slow and be patient!
3. Pull as far forward as possible in the parent load/unload loop.
4. Remember to drive slow in the neighborhood as we have many students that walk to and from school.
5. Heed our Crossing Guards' directions.
6. Absolutely NO student drop-offs in the Bus Loop.
7. If you pull in to park (rather than using the parent load/unload loop) please park in the designated Parent Parking area (see map). Also you MUST walk your child to crossing area onto the sidewalk. Do not allow your child to walk through the parking lot without an adult escorting him/her.
8. If you arrive late (8:25 a.m.) you must come into the school to sign in your child.
Again, thank you for your attention to student safety. We appreciate your cooperation and support!
Student Information System - Parent Vue
The ParentVue portal is an important part of our Student Information System. In this portal parents can view their child’s attendance, transportation information, academic progress, and update important student information like phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc. As we continue to work toward paperless communications, please plan to use ParentVue regularly.
It is important that you take the time to set up and activate your account if you have not already done so. You will need an activation key to do this. Here’s how:
1. Email SynergySupport@clarkston.k12.mi.us to request an activation key. Provide the following information in your email:
Your Name
Your Student(s) Name
Your Student(s) Date Of Birth
Your Home Address
Your Phone Number
Also, please make sure to take some time to review the information in ParentVue and make sure that we have the most accurate and updated information, particularly phone numbers and emergency contacts. To access ParentVue (once you have activated your account):
Go to the Clarkston Schools’ webpage www.clarkston.k12.mi.us
Choose the Resources tab and then select ParentVue
Looking For More Information
Please visit our school webpage: www.nsashabawelementary.com
There you will find information about school lunch, attendance, arrival/dismissal procedures, clubs, signing up for Remind texting, ParentVue, etc. We also have links to classroom webpages, a photo gallery, and information about upcoming events!
