As the COVID-19 virus made its way into and through the state of California, our entire Spring Sports season came to an immediate halt in early March. Initially, there were hopes that sports activity would be able to resume some time in April, but it didn’t take long to see that a different reality was headed our way. We rolled right from Spring Break into Distance Learning for the remainder of the year and the hopes of PCL titles and CIF playoffs for our athletes instead became mandatory Social Distancing.
At the moment, we are unsure when any type of athletic activities will be able to be held. Not only are Spring Sports canceled, banquets have been put on hold, the Athletic Department’s Pancake Breakfast has been canceled and Summer Sports is a question mark at this time.
For the vast majority of our Senior athletes, this has also meant the end of the road for their athletic careers. We are sad for those that got very little of their Senior season, but at the same time we’re very appreciative for their commitment to their respective programs and being great ambassadors for Beckman High School. It’s our hope that they’ve enjoyed being a Patriot student-athlete, have great memories of their teammates and coaches and are motivated to be an athlete for life. To all Senior athletes, we want to conclude by saying Thank You!

Last Dance Canceled.
In the sports world, the words March Madness stand for a culminating tournament for College Basketball that begins each year in the middle of March. As we hit the second week of March, Coronavirus concerns were the story as they impacted our country, state and community so greatly that sports have been shut down completely and even altered our way of living for now. Although this affected all of Beckman’s Spring sports, our Dance team was in the midst of final preparations for their Nationals competition which is the focal point of their season. As restrictions from the state began to be passed down, the team hoped that their competition may just be postponed, but on March 17th, Coach Megan Chavarria conducted a team video chat to let them know that Nationals had been canceled for the year. This would spell the end of the season and career for their two seniors, Isha Das and Anna Della Marna(pictured below). As you can imagine, the team was devastated. Not only were they not going to have the opportunity to compete together one last time, but they also hurt for their senior teammates. With the dust still settling, the Dance team has been able to reflect and take pride in this being the first year they had qualified a dance in every category for the National Competition. Like our Spring sport teams, their hope is to at least be able to get together one more time for a banquet to celebrate each other and their accomplishments this year.

Info on our Virtual Pancake Breakfast, a chance to meet and speak with our coaches, will be posted there as well.
Patriots and their families, please be safe and healthy through this time!
