Leadership Message
Why Do We Give Alms?
Charitable giving is a very ancient practice; almsgiving was normative long before the time of Jesus. The Lenten call to almsgiving means making the needs of other people our own. One of the central lessons of the cross is compassion; the heavy burdens we carry help us to appreciate the suffering in others. Sharing our material goods is often just the beginning of real Christian giving. This week the Student Leadership team has put together ideas to fundraise for the people of Ukraine. They have felt the need to give to those who at this time need our help. We are very grateful our students have made these opportunities available to us especially during this time of Lent. May we all find our path towards God during this Lenten session.
Blessings on your Lenten Journey,
Mrs. Cathy Hinger
Principal

Virtual Three-Way Conferences.
It's time to sign up for our Virtual Three-Way Conferences. If you have already signed up, THANK YOU!! If you haven't, there's still time! Conferences will be via Google Meet, an easy online platform where you and your child/children can have a "face-to-face" meeting with the teacher. We are grateful for the opportunity to talk with you about your child/children and the progress they have made so far in this year.

Cell Phones Expectations
Cell Phone expectations have always existed at St. Luke but due to the increase of inappropriate cell phone use the staff will be reinforcing our cell phone use guidelines. At St. Luke, student learning, mental health and positive relationships are important to maintaining a healthy school environment. Research across Canada shows a direct link between cell phone use and poor mental health, disrupted learning, a decrease in social interactions and are often linked to cyber bullying issues. In order to maintain a safe and caring environment for all students, St. Luke will implement the following:
● All students must adhere to the technology agreement signed by parents at the beginning of the year.
● Students will be expected to keep their cell phones in their locker until the end of the day if they are choosing to bring them to school.
● Cell phones will not be used in the classroom unless directly specified by the teacher and used for a specific purpose.
● Students will be able to use their cell phones once they have exited the school building at the end of the day.
● If students or parents need to get a hold of each other, the school phones will be made available, as there are phones in every classroom. The direct school line is 780-922-5920, and you can be put through to any classroom.
The cellphone expectations will help staff provide a focused and academically-enriched learning environment for all our students.
We have been busy in the library this month. There has been many things to celebrate. National Pig Day, and shrove Tuesday was March 1st, March 8th International Woman’s Day, and of course St Patrick’s Days, March 17th. I will be away from the library this week, and then it is spring break, so there will be no book exchange until April 4th.
Thanks everyone, enjoy your spring break, it is a great time to get into a good book and catch up on some reading!
